To put a tv in dd's room?

My dd is 3 next month. Up until she was 2 I kept her completely screen free. Since then she's watched a few Winnie the Pooh DVDs and a bit of postman pat. I have an old tv and an old vhs machine and I was thinking about putting it in her room. I have quite a few VHS tapes from when I was young of things you can't get anymore (things like the original bananas in pyjamas and some classic Disney films) and thought that especially in the winter months it would be lovely to snuggle up in her room in the evenings and watch them. I wouldn't have anything else on the tv, just the tapes. I thought it would be a nice way of introducing her to different films/programmes. I do think this would be really nice for her but realise that having a tv in a dcs room isn't really the done thing nowadays. was just wondering if it's unreasonable to do it or if people think it would be ok?

@Youcancallmeirrelevant I understand where you're coming from- my thought was just that if it was just a tv that played vhs she would just watch a tape at a time so she wouldn't be having too much time in front of the tv

@Wisteriaroundthedoor yes this was what I was worried about. I had a tv in my room as a child that I used to watch with my mum in the evenings and I just thought it would be a nice thing to do with my dd but do completely understand that it's a very outdated thing to do

@RosetteNebula id be careful with that. I had a tv in my room from around age 4 - I used to sneak it on at night and watched a lot of stuff that I really shouldn’t have at a very young age 😕

Haha I did that too! She's still in a cot though (comfort thing) and can't climb out so it's not an issue yet.

Also, is it ok to use a vhs machine or is it just too outdated now?

We still have a VCR in the summerhouse. I have some VHS that aren't available on DVD or streaming so it makes sense to still be able to watch them

Dolmiospastasauce · 31/08/2022 20:51

@LadyMonicaBaddingham yes i've got quite a few videos that I haven't seen available on DVD that I enjoyed when I was young and thought dd may like them too

@Dolmiospastasauce If you Google connections for vhs you can buy the adapters even if your TV doesn't have the right one.
Not saying don't get one for her room, that's up to you, just thinking it may be more comfortable for you both downstairs and then she still associates the TV with the living room.
DS is 3 and has a TV in his room. That's because sometimes I start work an hour before his usual bedtime so I can put a dvd on for him when I WFH. I use the spare room as an office so i can hear him
He'll only go to sleep with lullabies playing on the alexa. So when it's time to sleep I turn off the TV and play those. He's never asked to watch it in his room through the day, he's had it for 2 months.
