I know IABU. I didn’t research properly (I thought I had, but clearly didn’t…)

We’re staying in Alcudia. I have name changed because outing. I have two children who are 7 and 11.

Our hotel is fine but I hadn’t realised how big it was, so it’s loud and although there are 846 pools (slight exaggeration) there are only two that are fun to play in

We walked to the beach today (5 min walk) and it was a bit grim. Lots of shops selling fake sunglasses etc, not very clean beach, just a bit… hmm…

I need to make a plan for the next 4 days. PLEASE HELP AND TELL ME WHERE TO GO AND WHAT TO DO?!

  1. I thought we could go into the old town of Alcudia - would love any recommendations
  2. Is the Hidropark worth it?
  3. Where can we find a beach that is clean and calm??
  4. Anything else?

Before anyone tells me I’m a snob, yes probably I am a bit. We normally stay in much smaller and calmer hotels or rent a villa/house. We rarely come abroad so this is meant to be a real treat.

I will be so grateful for any good ideas so I can make a plan. Please don’t tell me to embrace the hotel aqua aerobics/disco/etc. It’s really, really not my thing (although v happy for my children to take part in anything they’d like to, but the childrens club seems aimed at younger ones really).

THANK YOU! And yes, I’m grateful to be on holiday but want to make it really great for my children and at the moment we’re all a bit underwhelmed.

My family holidayed in Pollensa one year, and visited other family in Alcudia for the day. My DM said Puerto (sp?) Pollensa was lovely - olde worlde town etc. Could you get a taxi there from your hotel?

Minikievs · 31/08/2022 16:27

Puerto Pollensa is lovely

mast0650 · 31/08/2022 16:28

My sister is in Mallorca. She just sent me photos of Es Trenc beach backing onto a nature reverse. Looks beautiful! MIght be a bit of a trek though...but could be worth it?

user5587553798654345678 · 31/08/2022 16:29

I mean. Bloody hell. I knew I’d misremembered. I came to Mallorca as a child and thought it was Alcudia. I’m 99% sure it was Port de Pollença!!!

This was us in July!!! That drive along the main street had my eyes popping.

Old Town saved us, we loved going for dinner but our kids are a bit older. The beach to the east of alcudia is nicer and quieter. We got the bus, which was fun. Pre book your airport taxi, if you haven't already done so, that was a nightmare for us.

Go on a boat trip...

stokiemum62 · 31/08/2022 16:30

Pollenca old town by taxi or bus, excellent market. Puerto Pollenca for lovely beach, shops and places to eat.

etulosba · 31/08/2022 16:30

I would hire a car and get out of there during the day.

WiseUpJanetWeiss · 31/08/2022 16:32

Are you driving or using the bus?

Goingtogoinsane · 31/08/2022 16:32

Another vote for beautiful puerto pollensa, short bus ride away

didiimaginethis · 31/08/2022 16:33

Feeling much like you, on holiday currently in Mallorca, nice hotel but we are right over the bar and god it is loud at night. My children (10 & 7) not into kids club (I've really tried), discos etc. So everyone's feeling a bit tired and grumpy.
I'm planning to visit the beach tomorrow and the waterpark in Magaluf on Friday.
Not very constructive sorry, just so you know someone else is feeling it too

Blueeyedgirl21 · 31/08/2022 16:33

Why not hire a car for a couple of days and get the kids to get a map out and plan a road trip ?

user5587553798654345678 · 31/08/2022 16:34

Bugger, bugger, bugger, bugger…. I can’t believe I booked the wrong place!!!!!!! 🫣🫣🫣🫣🫣🫣🫣🤯

Get a car and go to Porto Pollensa , Cala San vincente(lovely swimming plus a sweet little village) formentera or down the east coast and a day in Cala D'or or at the caves of drach

Old alcudia is lovely though. Alcudua itself is Magaluf for over 30s .

user5587553798654345678 · 31/08/2022 16:35

We don’t have a car here and I think hiring one would cost too much. Will find out about the bus to Pollença. It’s not far!!

Another vote for Puerto Pollensa (coast) or Pollensa (town). In Pollensa, climb the steps to the Calvary Chapel, or climb the hill opposite, to reach Santuari de la Mare de Déu del Puig

Market in Alcudia is nice. And I think you can climb the city walls?

If you have a car, Port de Soller is nice. Motorway is longer journey than the direct route along North of island, but easier if you are prone to car sickness

LeevMarie · 31/08/2022 16:36

We've visited Mallorca every year since DS was born, but we stay a little further south - Cala Mesquida is beautiful but might be a little too far away.

How about a visit to Soller? DS loved the train and it was very picturesque. Car hire prices have risen to a crazy amount on the island though, but you might be able to get a tour or public transport.

Hope it improves for you OP! x x

Crikeyalmighty · 31/08/2022 16:36

Yep we caught the bus a fair few times between pollensa and old alcudia -

user5587553798654345678 · 31/08/2022 16:36

@Crikeyalmighty I really want to go to the caves but it’s quite far. I was SO pleased with myself for finding a hotel so close to the beach and town. But it’s the wrong town! Gah.

holidayhonesty · 31/08/2022 16:38

Another vote for Pollenca town and Port de Pollenca. Also Palma is great for a day trip. Do you have a car? Soller and Port de Soller are meant to be nice I think.

Wotcha23 · 31/08/2022 16:38

Buses are extremely easy to use in Mallorca. No cash needed. Just bank card.

user5587553798654345678 · 31/08/2022 16:39

@youlightupmyday yep. My eyes were popping too!!!

Stillbloodyraining · 31/08/2022 16:39

Get a cab/the bus 5-10 mins up the coast to Puerto Pollensa - lovely beach, both in the main area and at the Pine Walk, a nice square with plenty of shops, bars and restaurants and a lovely marina too.
Or continue on to Pollensa Old Town which is beautiful and has some great views from to the top of the calvari steps (400+ so not for the fainthearted) or Cala Sant Vicenç - little coves with the most stunning clear water. Although to get in the sea is quite pebbly to start with so if you have any of those water shoes, do take them!
As as aside, when we were there in July we needed masks on the bus and you can touch on and off with a contactless bank card - just use the same one for all of you as it's cheaper that way.

ZittiEBuoni · 31/08/2022 16:39

Just go to Pollenca every day, it's close and much nicer. We hired a car and drove from Alcudia to the caves, it wasn't that far really. When we were there everyone got horrendous food poisoning, so count your blessings in that respect...

MaggieFS · 31/08/2022 16:39

Oh no, definitely hop on a bus. They're v user friendly and you can look timetables up online.

ZittiEBuoni · 31/08/2022 16:40

(alcudia for the food poisoning, not the caves)
