Way underpaid

Yanbu, it’s a disgrace.

Started last week. Git given a set of scrubs to get changed into at each house. First house the relatives (including a male) watched me change into the scrubs. After that event I now wear shorts under my clothes for getting changed

Yea carers are ridiculously underoaid

and why not get changed in the bathroom? It’s inappropriate for you to be dressing in front of clients

Valeriekat · 31/08/2022 06:46

Who will be paying for it?

Why don't you ask to use the bathroom?

I work in care, the private paid sort (which is not long from being the only sort!). These sorts of posts are fairly laughable when families phone up to complain about price rises to our office and even to us, andvtry to get us to do work "direct" (obviously without doing so legally).

Unfortunately when it comes to paying carers and childcare there's a lot of virtue signalling, but noone is stumping up. It's fine, I can live off contempt

Simonjt · 31/08/2022 06:56

Its hugely underpaid, but it always will be unless there are huge changes, especially changes to self funded home care. While £20 an hour is expensive for the service user, it isn’t enough to cover costs and provide a decent wage.

However no one should be getting changed in a public area, if you’re getting changed where a family member can see you that also means you’re getting changed in front of clients which isn’t appropriate and most likely a safeguarding issue.

Hmmm yeah, I also wonder who will pay to support the elderly when all the carers give up their jobs because they can’t afford to live on such shit money.

Its not just the end user, its the knock on in hospital discharges and extra calls on GP services too.

Needs to be taken into the NHS, where there would be band and wage progression, with pool cars etc.

Don't get why your changing into scrubs every visit, my DD had a uniform and wore an apron for the personal care jobs, thats hugely wasteful, she could see 5 or 6 patients per shift.

It’s not just care/community care workers that are underpaid. It’s also carers who care for a family member or friend. Less than £70 a week for 35 hours.
