Arrhythmia clinic referral

7 replies

FeelingGuilty151 · 30/08/2022 20:04

So I’ve been referred to an arrhythmia clinic by a GP I have seen. My CTPA and chest xray was both normal back when A&E were investigating for a PE as my heart rate was 124 and I was in pain. I’ve had ECGs which have came out normal, he said one was almost normal, I can be quite bradycardic (120-129bpm) on a bad day, my blood tests came out normal which is what prompted him to refer me for a holter monitoring

Has anyone else been through this?

120 to 129 is fast (tachycardic) but not super fast. I have had an intermittent tachyarrhythmia throughout my adult life which goes much faster than that (I'm 53 now) no ill effects, I know what starts it and can usually control it back down myself.

There are lots of things that could make your heart beat that fast including anxiety.

A holter monitor is a great way of looking at your heart rate throughout the day as you do normal things, It can be worn for 24, 48 or 72 hours and gives a total ECG for the wohole time.
It's great that all your other investigations are clear/ hopefully this will provide the answer as to what is going on.

Best wishes and try ot to worry

You are tachycardic, not bradycardic. Normal heart rate is 60-100. A tape where they measure you for 24 hours or through episodes of tachycardia is the next logical step in investigating why you are tachycardic. It is nothing to be worried about. You might get some answers.

Sorry yes I meant tachycardia not bradycardia I just realised reading through

Have had this with two pregnancies, once as a teen and once in 2020. Father, sister, brother and lots of cousins have cardiomyopathy, but I’ve dodged that one. Sadly I was offered two referrals in 2020 and this year but nothing has materialised. In the interim I had been on beta blockers, but off them now as pregnant and in limbo. My sister spends time wearing monitors to track her cardiomyopathy and it’s worthwhile, will hopefully help reassure you. Best of luck! 😘

Sorry; clumsy wording. Outside of pregnancy, twice (once as teen, once in 2020), also whilst pregnant. So four times total in hospital.

Meant to ask, do you ever feel palpitations, dizziness etc?

I’m sorry to hear nothing has materialised from your referrals, hopefully they find out what yours are caused by, glad to hear the cardiomyopathy has skipped you though. I have felt dizziness a few times and noticed palpitations about 10 minutes ago. I’ll know when it starts to happen as I’ll feel heavy chested and I’ll feel a pressure in my head

@FeelingGuilty151 thanks, but I’m not too stressed about it as it’s an old habit by now! 😅
Ok, so at least between now & then you can be mindful of any episodes and take it easy! I’m sure someone will tottle along any second with more experience of ‘what happens next’ with referrals;
keep us posted too, hope the wait isn’t too bad, I hear such mixed things at the mo, so fingers crossed it’s quick!
