To go to bed for the night now?!

I'm permanently exhausted. We both work FT with a toddler. No family help, just the two of us juggling it all.

It's DP's turn this evening to do bedtime with our toddler. I'm free!! This time is so precious. I could watch a film and have a glass of wine, or have a bath, or even go for a run, if I wanted to.
Instead I am sitting on the sofa in the dark almost falling asleep. I could literally go to bed for the night now. At 7.45pm.

Is there something wrong with me?! Or is life as a full time working parent to a toddler so utterly draining that this is acceptable?🤔

Go to your GP and.ask to have your B12 levels checked.

I work PT and increasing to FT soon. Husband works FT. 4yo goes down at 7, comes in to us any time from 10-1 sleeps/fidgets with us then wakes at 5am for the day. We sleep separately so one of us gets a proper sleep but are still exhausted.. me so more than husband, I just don’t cope well with not a lot of sleep. I sit down by 830 after DS in bed, we have had dinner and bath and then basically fall asleep on sofa! We try and start a series and I fall asleep every single time!! I’m only 35… this is the life haha!

I was like you OP. I would regularly go to bed when the DC did. I could maybe stay up until 10pm two nights a week at a push to watch a film. My youngest was up at 5.30am every day. I felt utterly exhausted ALL THE TIME.

I went to the GP and had a full blood work done. It came back clear. No medical reason - just the exhaustion of being an older mum (early 40s) with two young children.

They are waking less in the night now and I'm starting to feel less exhausted and can stay up later more often. I just make sure I listen to my body and go to bed early if I need to.

It will get better....

So I was asleep by 8.30pm, alarm went off at 5.15am. I still feel absolutely exhausted, just totally wiped out. I'm now wondering if I have a health problem as this can't be normal after almost 9 hrs of sleep? 😕

Get some good iron in your diet, go to GP. Nap when you can, don't feel bad! It's exhausting.

I literally get in bed at that time most days 🤣

A one off 9 hour night isn't going to fix weeks of sleep deprivation. Every so often I fall asleep straight after putting my kids to bed and often still feel knackered in the morning. And I'm usually getting 7-8 hours sleep and not getting up til 7!

This was me had every blood test going. Get yourself the GP and ask for some bloods for anaemia, thyroid etc.

Having a toddler is brutal, 5 and 3 here both will full time jobs, some days I just dream of 24 hours on my own
