Two different surnames

One of my neighbours uses two different surnames. Has two facebook accounts, two twitter accounts.

Yesterday I was updating my family tree and while on Ancestry decided to be nosy. It seems he is registered twice. Definitely him - date of birth, place of birth and mother's name exactly the same.

I didn't know that was possible

Which primary source record was it on Ancestry?

NumptiesIncorporated · 30/08/2022 14:22

What's your aibu?

Tiani4 · 30/08/2022 14:24

It's irrelevant if he's registered twice in an ancestry search as people do change names or used maiden / married names

However if he is registered twice on the local BC electoral role with for voting that's very different ! Are you sure?

Smellywellyhoo · 30/08/2022 14:34

I don't think your Facebook or Ancestry.com details are legally binding! 😂

Birth records. Looks as though he was registered twice

Not really got one but wasn't sure where to post and aibu gets a lot of traffic.

I just wanted to know how it is possible to register a birth twice with two different surnames.

Maybe he was adopted? He would have been registered twice then, once when he was born and then after being adopted, or maybe his mum was unmarried when she had him so gave him her surname and after she married changed his name to her husbands? I know of a few people who this has happened to.

That's some stalker-level shit right there.

ArnoldBee · 30/08/2022 15:44

I'm registered with 3 surnames according to the gro index. There's only 1 on my actual certificate.

Sunnyqueen · 30/08/2022 15:45

Jesus how nosey are you, searching your neighbours ancenstory records 😳😳 that's pretty weird op.

This happened to my dad so when I applied for a passport using his details I had to provide his birth cert with his mother's name and then his adoption certificate to his stepfather.

Also I use a fake name on Facebook but a real one on twitter. I work in education and I don't want my students finding me on Facebook but my twitter is more of a work one so no problem being found.

You haven't listed anything overly dodgy here OP

namechange30455 · 30/08/2022 16:00

Don't you have to re-register the birth if you are unmarried and subsequently get married? Were his parents married when he was born?

Cas112 · 30/08/2022 16:09

Why have you posted about this? What's your point? What conclusion are you looking for? What does this have to do with you?

Very odd post

It's a neighbour who owes us money. He seems to be up to some dodgy stuff, police often at his house, claiming benefits but working cash in hand and, I am fairly sure, dealing drugs.

I know he uses both surnames at different times which I find odd.

No, I don't think his parents were married. The name of his mother both times is the same. Surely if she got married her married name would be there

I didn't think birth records of living people were accessible on Ancestry. Not detailed ones.

Not nessesarily. I'm not changing my name when me and DP get married

LadyLapsang · 30/08/2022 16:36

Lots of women use two surnames, their maiden name professionally and their married surname out of work - think Cherie Booth / Blair.

HouseOfWaffles · 30/08/2022 16:37

How does he owe you money?

When I worked in a prison, about 70% of my clients had at least one alias on the computer system. Some had many! I expect if he's a drug dealer he will be using at least two names, yes! :)

Penguinsaregreat · 30/08/2022 16:50

Do you mean he has 2 birth entries?
That would be possible if his mother was not married and registered him by herself firstly. Then she could have added the natural father onto the birth certificate afterwards. Is that what you mean?
Or he could be adopted, but that would show a different mother/ father to his initial birth registration.
If he has a drug dealer or general ‘wrong un’ he probably will go by different names but he will not be allowed to create random birth entries.
There is also the possibility that he is on witness protection but from what you have described that does not seem to fit.

SparrowsNest · 30/08/2022 17:55

A complete non issue. I use two different surnames - one personally and one professionaly and also have separate social media accounts in these names.

CombatBarbie · 30/08/2022 17:59

I think most people are mis understanding. The OP states there are two birth entries. I'm assuming by this you mean he could potentially have 2 NI numbers, can claim benefits twice etc like he is two seperate people.
