To think most kids TV shows these days encourage bratty behaviour?

Just that basically. I feel like you get the odd one where the child(ren) characters aren't being total nightmares. I used to think it was just Peppa Pig who was a little witch, but the more I watch lately they're all just as bad 😂

Agree! I find a lot of the shows on cbeebies are okay so just stick to this now!

I also think finding yourself getting surprisingly over invested in some kids tv shows is a rite of passage for parents, is it not?
If you haven’t sat there sleep deprived wondering what the hell happened to Sarah’s parents in ‘Sarah and Duck’ or contemplated whether the ‘adults’ in Bing are actual dead criminals in purgatory living out their punishments caring for bratty whiny kids, are you really a parent? 😂

My partner said there's dad threads on reddit for this, he has so many conspiracy theories when it comes to kids shows 😂

My kids turned temporarily obnoxious after watching a 70s adaptation of The Secret Garden which came free as a dvd with the Sunday Times. Don’t know why they decided to model themselves on Mary and Colin rather than Dickon and Martha but it proves it’s not a new problem.

Mammyloveswine · 30/08/2022 14:17

I fucking hate Bing... he's an absolute shit!!

Quite like peppa, some of the jokes make me laugh!

Bloody love nanny plum in Ben and holly!!

My two love unspeakable the YouTuber... now he's fucking irritating!!

They like SpongeBob atm too which i forget how much i enjoy Grin

Peppa's a cunt, banned in this house.

Bluey 👍👍👍
She's a bit spoiled and demanding tbf but she's not a bully

Bluey is great because her parents basically slap her down in a nice way when she oversteps and everything is still all good.

Peppa - totally agree

RewildingAmbridge · 30/08/2022 14:27

I don't think it's new I read the Beano in the eighties, those kids are a nightmare

Ladybyrd · 30/08/2022 14:37

Our ds liked Masha and the Bear and I used to swear his behavior would go downhill after watching it.

Now it's Blippy and Mikkah with both our kids. I can't say it makes them badly behaved, but it drives me absolutely dolally.

Ariela · 30/08/2022 14:39

Gets worse as a pre-teenager, those Jacqueline Wilson books, and Tracey Beaker

LadybirdsAreNeverHappy · 30/08/2022 15:32

I don’t know why so many people think Bluey is a good example of parenting. They are basically slaves to their kids every whim. The Fairies episode is brilliant but when you think about it, the dad is on the phone, tells Bingo (quite mildly) not to disturb him, she gets upset, the entire family play an elaborate imaginary game that basically involves allowing/ encouraging her to wreck the whole house and play tricks on them because she didn’t get her way.
The games they play often involve them literally controlling the parents, casting spells on them, forcing them to embarrass themselves in public, making them into robots, video games etc
The kids never get told No. Every time the parents aren’t going to let them do something they feel bad and give in. When the dad has to go to work and can’t play in the one with the island in the backyard, the rest of the episode is a massive guilt trip that was actually kind of upsetting. It made my dd cry even though she wasn’t sure why.
In another episode, they literally walk all over the parents when they climb on top of them pretending they’re mountains.
In reality, Bluey and Bingo would grow up to be the worst teenagers of all time.

verabarbleen · 30/08/2022 19:52

I know what you mean. Bing is annoying but I find the actual programme quite calming I like the little world they live in minus bing!
Peppa is quite well written.
Ds3 is more into paw patrol and spider and his amazing friends now which I can't get into at all 😂 and if I have to watch the sonic movie one more time I may cry.
I introduced him to Matilda and he loved it so I enjoyed that blast from the past .

bellac11 · 30/08/2022 19:55

Just to add to the Mr Ben/Bagpuss type memories.... The Clangers, The Moomins, The Flumps

Harmless and cosy

This is why I'm on the fence with Bluey! My partner loves it but I've watched quite a few episodes where I'm thinking "hmm this isn't the best example to be setting", like the one that was on today where mum and the kids were recalling all the times dad had teased them 🙄

My daughter loves Matilda! And Annie (the Orginal version), Madeleine and Beethoven, and some other classic kids films. It's nearly October so guarenteed we will be watching Hocus Pocus on repeat, can't complain at that!

Bluey's dead budgie episode had a lot to answer for in our house.

verabarbleen · 30/08/2022 20:02

@EllieRosesMammy ooo that's so exciting I can't wait for mine to be into all those. My daughter is 1 so I hope she will like those too. I loved Annie as a little girl. I also loved terminator 2 😂

sweeneytoddsrazor · 30/08/2022 20:07

Max and Ruby were great if you could get past the lack of parents
For me it was Wizards of Waverley Place and Zac and Cody that were problematic with either Alex and Zac getting away with bad behaviour or their respective siblings being punished alongside them for no reason at all

RootinandTootin · 30/08/2022 20:11

you’ve clearly not watched Bluey!

LadybirdsAreNeverHappy · 30/08/2022 20:13

Ladybyrd · 30/08/2022 20:01

Bluey's dead budgie episode had a lot to answer for in our house.

Oh no.
I was watching that one with my almost 3yo dd and when the vet came out with the sad face and started breaking the news, I grabbed the remote control and turned the tv off and said Oh what happened it’s broken! Even so, she was like What happened to the little birdie? in a worried voice. But at least I didn’t have to explain it.

Introvertedandalone · 30/08/2022 20:14

My DD has just finished ALL 102 EPISODES of the Clangers on iPlayer. It’s pretty mind numbing but very tame and they all have a moral to them…

Daisy4569 · 30/08/2022 20:17

Bing drives me mad, he seems to whinge about everything

JurrasicCazza · 30/08/2022 20:18

partlyponder · 30/08/2022 10:47

I hate Bing. He seems almost manipulative, eurghh. Is it just me?!

How Flop hasn't smothered Bing in his sleep yet is a mystery to me.

My kids have forgotten Bing now (thank God!) But when I explain the stories to them, even they are like 'and this is a kids show?!'

Phos · 30/08/2022 20:31

I didn't love Peppa but she never seemed to affect my daughter's behaviour too much.

Bluey on the other hand is a little twat and my daughter copies her and especially Bingo. It is now banned.

EllieRosesMammy · 30/08/2022 21:42

Ladybyrd · 30/08/2022 20:01

Bluey's dead budgie episode had a lot to answer for in our house.

I think I spat my tea out when Bluey made them reenact the scenario of the budgie dying at the vets, and mum pretends that the budgie survived instead, but Bluey isn't happy with this outcome and still wants it to be dead 😂

Is Charlie and Lola not on anymore? Poor Charlie had the patience of a saint (although even he could be a bit annoying and sanctimonious)!
