Does anyone else find it irritating when people use a z instead of an s. Maybe they think it makes them cool or edgy. I think it makes them look ridiculous. Am I missing something or just being an old grump

Almost, almost annoys me as much as the spelling 'gawjus' 🤯.

KyaClark · 29/08/2022 18:56

Lolz

TheLightSideOfTheMoon · 29/08/2022 18:57

Never seen it.

I hate people saying ‘our’ instead or ‘are’.

I’ve noticed this a lot over the last few years.

Sparklesocks · 29/08/2022 18:58

The only people I know who do that are children 😄

Theimpossiblegirl · 29/08/2022 18:59

Do you mean American spellings?

Annieisalright · 29/08/2022 18:59

YANBU

The women on here who use the word 'menz' are quite frankly pathetic

Dotcheck · 29/08/2022 19:00

Jesus- another anti- North American by stealth.
OP
Surely you realise / realize that it is a North American spelling? And this is a global site?

ClumpingBambooIsALie · 29/08/2022 19:00

I realize you're upset but you need to rationalize it. I sympathize though.

I've only ever seen the opposite.

'Do you want to come to are house tonight'

Soz Grin

Sunnyqueen · 29/08/2022 19:06

I thought that was just an american/british difference?

Same. I've never seen 'our' used for are, only the opposite.

Anonymous48 · 29/08/2022 19:07

I guess you don't realize that some words are spelled differently in American English and British English. YABU

InsertPunHere · 29/08/2022 19:08

American spellings are frequently different, especially 'ise' becoming 'ize'

This isn't news. The language diverged in the 17th century and has developed differently.

Zzzzzz
Aw, I thought this thread was going to be about sleeping walks away grumbling tiredly

sweeneytoddsrazor · 29/08/2022 19:09

No I don't mean American spelling, I mean as in the previous example menz instead of mens. Sorry for not making that clear.

OP posts:
Anonymous48 · 29/08/2022 19:10

I have never seen anyone use, for example, menz instead of men's. It makes me wonder whose writing you are reading.

Crazykatie · 29/08/2022 19:12

Menz is never correct and my spell check has just tried to correct it, tell them to turn spell check on

BeanieTeen · 29/08/2022 19:13

I don’t know what you’re on about.
I thought you meant something like ‘realize’ instead of ‘realise’. Which is just American English.
Where have you seen people write ‘menz?’

Annieisalright · 29/08/2022 19:14

Are you serious?

It's an AIBU and FWR staple

For some posters that is

I retract my post

( bows and backs away from thread)

sweeneytoddsrazor · 29/08/2022 21:03

My fault entirely @Dotcheck I should have made it clear in my opening post.

OP posts:
VladmirsPoutine · 29/08/2022 21:05

This is so random. I don't think it's even a thing Confused

Palmfrond · 29/08/2022 21:15

ise vs ize is more complicated than British vs American English. In quite a few cases the -use is a neologism, presumably to bring those words which were previously suffixed -ize into conformity with those words which are always suffixed -ise.

Nothing to do with OPs query but there it is.
