Just that really, if you were the prime minister what would you do to help fix the country and the cost of living crisis.

If I were BJ I'd throw myself under that £350millon bus and do everyone a favour.

That would improve the country instantly.

Equallength · 29/08/2022 00:09

£20billion raised here. Twenty BILLION.

The fact that people fall for simplistic nonsense soundbites like this is why we are in this mess.

Gingernaut · 29/08/2022 00:43

We were lied to - the people who lied need to be prevented from taking any public office ever again - not even clerk of an obscure town council

Obvious corruption needs to be prosecuted harshly - all the appointments and awarded contracts during the Pandemic need to be scrutinised and dismantled if found to be detrimental to public life

ThirtyThreeTrees · 29/08/2022 01:03

Can't believe it hasn't been said already but:-

I would recruit my government advisors and political party from MNs - it's got all the answers!

Find a broom cupboard to lock Liz and Nadine in too.

I would look for the NHS post Brexit money bus money - it must have gone somewhere. Surely nobody lied!!!

I would let Scotland and Northern Ireland hold the referendum the appear to want - purely to reduce costs rather than any other reason.

More seriously...

I would actually talk to the real workers in the NHS - not the oversupply of management in the NHS. Same spend but better allocated.

I would arrange a Visa programme for genuine, properly vetted overseas workers and invite them back.

I would build more prisons - firstly to support construction, secondly to actually reduce the level of crime and resources issue, none of this reform/second changes stuff either, you do the crime, do the time and also create employment.

I would also get tougher on child maintenance. Why should the government have to subside absent fathers etc? Mandatory wage deduction or jail. Also and of the playing the system, we live separately again.

Social housing - again no issue providing it but abuse it, you lose it.

Mandatory financial literacy classes in school too. Teach children from an early age about economics and budgets and how to secure their financial future and how to manage in difficult times.

Fines for companies who waste resources, fuel, electricity etc.

I would focus on the green economy, CSR, stem - viable, indigenous business from education to company start ups etc.

I would also raise taxes as there is no way to get out of a recession and truly kerb inflation otherwise.

ThirtyThreeTrees · 29/08/2022 01:05

and some sort of centralisation scheme to create more regional hubs so the dependency on needing to be in London is reduced.

AnneLovesGilbert

What Keir has proposed. And I loathe the man. But he’s right on this.

Why do you loathe him? I always think he seems a decent person from a very ordinary background. Just interested.

He's corrupt. Look at his history with Public Prosecutions.

Look at the Daniel Morgan case

stillvicarinatutu · 29/08/2022 01:14

I would speak to grass roots in public service like police and nhs and get someone way down the food chain to run them - I'd stick a suggestion box in every police station and every hospital, doctors surgery, and I would actually read them . I would shortlist people with the most common sense suggestions for the top jobs .

I would cut the loopholes for big business to dodge taxes .

I would look at ways to distribute wealth in a fairer way via
Taxes and credits .

I would ensure social housing was built for those who need it and stop selling it off for a fraction of its worth . I would look at other ways to house those that can afford higher rents and mortgages.

I would listen to people . I wouldn't be a self serving arse lining my own pocket.

I would use the money made from speeding to fix roads instead of letting councils keep it and squander it .

I would look at ways to improve funding for basic services . Nhs . Police .

I would cut wastage spent in on stupidity. Like duplicate letters sent first class in nhs etc .

I would encourage everyone who can to go paperless to save postage and paper .

Ooooooo vote me in !

“Look at ways to”

you do sound like a politician already tbf…

Fifife · 29/08/2022 01:25

Lex345 · 28/08/2022 20:25

As everyone has said already, heavy tax lean on the very wealthy and billion pound turnover companies.

Energy-Financially vulnerable tariff plus fixed tariff lower than cap up to certain %age of usage.

NHS and Social care-funding and better co working. Lots of elderly hospital admissions from social care could be avoided with better satellite services like early sepsis intervention and community IVs for example.

Banish BoJo and JRM to a museum.

And I am sorry to say it and fully expect my arse handed to me, but I would do everything I could to reverse Brexit.

I really like this idea as a HCP. There seems to be very low threshold for care home admission to hospital which causes bed blocking. Better care coordination and community support would be great and actually save money.

“Look at ways to”

Exactly. They love using lots of words without actually saying anything concrete that they would actually do

GreenLunchBox · 29/08/2022 01:50

The NHS needs one central computer system that links every care event. I have no idea why this isn't the case and there is so much time and money wasted because of it

GreenLunchBox · 29/08/2022 01:51

The government need to be held accountable the same way a HCP is at risk of going to jail if they fuck up

GreenLunchBox · 29/08/2022 01:53

BREXIT was voted for so Im not going to get into reversing it, but the media need to start properly talking about its effects 🙄🤔

GreenLunchBox · 29/08/2022 01:53

Ban private schools and force schools to be good quality for all children

GreenLunchBox · 29/08/2022 01:57

The energy crisis won't be solved by using taxpayer money to subsidise energy companies because for god's sake where and when will it end? We need a wealth tax to reset society. The 1% are hoarding wealth while hoardes of people starve even though they are working flat out. What's the point of this?

Flutterbybudget · 29/08/2022 02:56

First thing I’d do, is stop MPs from claiming fuel bills on expenses - and focus their minds on solving that problem.

ImaginaryDragon · 29/08/2022 06:52

GreenLunchBox · 29/08/2022 01:53

Ban private schools and force schools to be good quality for all children

Removing the need for as many private schools as we have is a far better objective. Banning private schools won't come anywhere near fixng the education system. There are problems outside of the system (home/parent/social media origjnated etc) and inside the system (How funding is allocated, how teachers , schools and students are measured, how much access to support a child has from an emotional, additional educational and/or behavioural needs perspective etc). Having an educational system that optimises outcomes for all students is the one if the best long term investments this country can make.

tulippa · 29/08/2022 07:34

@Flapjacker48
I am not an engineer and am not an expert in this field at all. It's just an idea I had.
Are you saying we have to use fossil fuels forever as 100% renewable isn't possible? Because surely that isn't possible either as they will run out.
We have to think creatively. Could there be some way of making energy on demand? I don't know if there is but we have to start thinking of alternatives at some point.

Wouldloveanother · 29/08/2022 07:35

Ok here’s mine

NHS:

  1. Stop bed blockers - after the 2nd fall requiring a hospital stay in anybody over 80, an order put in place to sell their house and the funds used to place them in an adequate care home
  2. Charge £5 per GP visit - under 18s free (won’t raise much but encourages people to stick to appointments)
  3. A huge push on the obesity crisis. We need weighing of children in school and early intervention, a review of school meals/canteens, and a huge public awareness campaign etc

Housing

  1. Push landlord tax up to the point where it makes renting out houses and flats much less profitable, which would free up some housing
  2. Compulsory purchase of any property empty for 2+ years
  3. Stricter rules on new builds and how much space can be advertised as a ‘bedroom’. New houses must be properly insulated with solar panels etc
  4. no building on greenfield sites

Education

  1. disband private school’s ‘charitable’ status and tax them properly. Money goes into state schools
  2. Change the school day to 9-5 to bring it more in line with working hours, with a longer lunch break with a sit down meal and then an hour for relaxation.
  3. more emphasis on sports and exercise - an hour a day at least for all children up to 18

L1ttledrummergirl · 28/08/2022 20:14

Tax the very wealthy to ensure the poorest have enough to survive.
Cap the maximum salary to 10x your lowest paid worker so if your cleaner earns £10 an hour the ceo is capped at £100.

Scrap the daily charge on energy.

This and also

Remove VAT from energy bills
cap house prices and rents
make it law that 25% of all profits are to be shared amongst the employees of the company equally regardless of how high up they are. The CEO and the cleaner get the same.
Only allow a certain % of holiday homes in an area based on population of that area.
Make all public transport "not for profit" companies especially the rail network.

Shade17 · 29/08/2022 07:59

Outlaw unions.
Reduce income tax for lower earners.
Windfall taxes for energy generators - passed on to consumers in their entirety.
Abolish all emission zones and require councils to provide free town/city centre parking.

tbh I’d rather be euthanised after fall 1, than live with the fear that if I fell over again, I’d be carted off to a care home and my home stolen by the state.

TheEggChair · 29/08/2022 08:59

absolutelyanythingwilldo · 29/08/2022 00:04

Euthanise anyone and everyone over the age of 70. After the initial mass cull it would be as and when a person turned 70, they would be taken away to be put to sleep. This gives the person and family time to prepare and get their things in order before execution day.

This would free up housing and massively increase average productivity.

Is this an actual realistic suggestion? Then why execute innocent members of the public when you have prisons full of criminals?

Skinnermarink · 29/08/2022 09:31

That is hilarious. 70 isn’t even particularly old for many.
