to be really scared of PET scan (suspected lung cancer) this week

all started with a four month cough, xray then ct scan which i had hoped would show that the '3 small white spots' in my lungs were benign however got a call when i was working from hospital dr telling me i had an urgent PET scan which says to me at a guess they think it is but are double checking plus how bad or not the cancer is (if it is). I've not had a pet scan before and am really nervous as i think it is worse than the ct although i may be wrong. perhaps this is more of a hand hold (i've never asked for one on here before...) or to hear from someone else that may have had a health scare and can share the odd experience. thanks

Hi @beethecrackon24995 - just to say that I'm still here, hoping that everything is OK for you. The waiting is the worst - it is hell. It's hard to speculate about what's going on, given that your PET scan was 2 weeks ago, but I would have thought that if they wanted to proceed with further investigations that you would have heard by now. Let's hope. Thinking of you.

Hi @user1583920194858592910103848559201 - yes, I got my results and the docs said they are pretty sure I don't have cancer. However, they are going to scan me in 3 months' time to keep an eye on me. Thanks for asking.

thank you so much for your responses, i can't tell you how much they have helped as i feel so alone and if i mention it to anyone i get that tilted head sad look and the 'you'll be fine comment'. I had an ultrasound as the cough i had had created what i thought was a hernia. The ultrasound showed up a host of things ie kidney stone, small hernia, fatty deposits plus a small cyst on my liver (gp wasn't bothered with any of these). She was however concerned about three cysts on my kidneys. I have a separate hospital appointment for mid october for those. I was thinking, when i go for the PET this week, if i mention it, do you think they can check my kidneys at the same time!!! Makes sense to me. All of this has happened since friday. my husband has been away working and i am a busy market trader so it's been mad. Actually, i love my job so this has been a good distraction. The barts hospital dr called me when i was serving someone. i couldn't hear what she was saying, it was like something from a dark comedy sketch. If you have seen Breaking Bad it was just like the scene when walt is just diagnosed but he is more focused on the consultants yellow stain on his overcoat. Well, when i was trying to listen to what the dr was saying, i was more focused on following an old lady acound who has form for stealing from me......... ps: sorry for typos/lack of capital letters. i've just got in from working three full days starting work at 4am. thanks again

The PET scan will scan from head to at least mid thighs, so your kidneys will definitely be seen on the scan. HTH.

hi there, i actually have an update. i went to see gp today as i hadn't heard since pet scan which was nearly 4 weeks ago in the hope that the gp may be able to chase. as it turned out, when she looked at her laptop she could see that there had been an mdt meeting among the specialists concenered since my pet scan and overall if i understood it correctly the nodule that had been the largest and of most concern seems to have disappeared!! another though has since popped up since the ct scan so they want to do another scan in i think 3 months time. it also showed up i have some kind of bowel desease (can't remember the name..) which i have been told is very common and not cancer . i'm not concerned about that, actually in normal times i would have been worried but it barely registered which is quite funny really. i think she said something about my kidneys but again, i'm not overly concerned and have a kidney check up apt in a few weeks but for now anyway feel very relieved and liberated as i really had been preparing for the worst.

Hi gilead I thanks for your message. I can't remember what it was called. Tbh I was only half listening and was so relieved that they didn't think it was cancer that she could have said anything and I doubt I would have heard. She said something about me having areas that would cause blockages and that I might have pain/constipation. I will worry about it as and when but don't want to think about it right now. It wasn't crohns.
