This is not sustainable, is it?

I have a client facing job. I don't have that many meetings but when I do, I have to commute 6+ hours, and sometimes the only way to do it is driving. We can afford the commuting coats, however I don't think my company will be happy for me to waste two days to get to see a client, when most of my colleagues would only use 3-4 hrs tops.

Why are your colleagues clients closer than yours are? What am I missing?
Do you mean a 6 hours round trip or a 12 hour round trip?
Surely if your company want you to do F2F meetings they are aware of the travel time/costs. Are you saying they aren’t paying you a travel allowance?

What has your line manager / boss said? Are they happy with this?

We can afford the commuting coats,

why do you personally pay? Does your company have the option where you can be reimbursed?

Why have you been allocated clients that are further away than other colleagues? And if you’re spotting a trend here… what has your line manager / boss said?

Hotandbothereds · 28/08/2022 13:56

Have you recently moved? Is this a new situation?

Why are your client meetings so much further away than your colleagues?

Doesn’t your company pay travel expenses if the travel is necessary for your job?

Namechangefail123 · 28/08/2022 16:02

My company does pay. But it's been a suprise to everyone that there are no direct flights and getting to London is at least 6 hours.

There's two of us, but I'm the strategic one and my colleague is the "little boxes" one.

Is this down to where you live? Rather than where your job is based?
I’m reading it that colleagues live locally to the job, while you live a 6 hr commute away.

They should have looked into that.

SheWoreYellow · 28/08/2022 16:09

So did you move or are you new? Or are they new clients?

girlmom21 · 28/08/2022 16:10

Who's it not sustainable for? You or the company?

6 hours one way?

IcedOatLatte · 28/08/2022 16:11

What exactly are you asking? No one here knows what your employer thinks

Chikapu · 28/08/2022 16:13

This is as clear as mud!

Namechangefail123 · 28/08/2022 16:13

It's about 50/50 (so half of my colleagues live locally). But the remote ones are either London or Midlands based.

OP posts:
Namechangefail123 · 28/08/2022 16:14

Yes it's six hours one way. This way I spent 10 hours door to door to get to one of our clients.

OP posts:
girlmom21 · 28/08/2022 16:15

So where are you? Newcastle?

Squashpocket · 28/08/2022 16:16

Good god woman, you are not good at explaining things.

DdraigGoch · 28/08/2022 16:17

Where do you live? Are we talking Newcastle or Paris?

IcedOatLatte · 28/08/2022 16:19

That makes no sense at all, does your job involve communicating in any way 😂

Namechangefail123 · 28/08/2022 16:20

I'm in Cornwall and yes I went to Newcastle! Newcastle to london was only 3 hours, I was impressed

Namechangefail123 · 28/08/2022 16:20

It was *this week... Sorry lots of typos

OP posts:
Stichintime · 28/08/2022 16:22

Not sure what the point of your post is?

SheWoreYellow · 28/08/2022 16:24

So did they know you live in Cornwall when you got the job?

DdraigGoch · 28/08/2022 16:25

Yeah, South West to North East England is a long one by train, shame that they got rid of the Plymouth-Scotland sleeper, that would have meant that at least you could sleep through the journey.

Namechangefail123 · 28/08/2022 16:26

Yes, they're aware I live in Cornwall, but they weren't aware it takes forever to get anywhere. There's been redundancies too, which makes me worry.

OP posts:
Blossomtoes · 28/08/2022 16:29

Confused. Am I alone?

FakingMemories · 28/08/2022 16:30

More importantly, were you aware when you accepted the job that you would have to go to Newcastle regularly even though you live in Cornwall?
