To be annoyed at my friend?

I really don't know if I am.

She was here the other day and had boots on that were really hurting her feet. She lives about an hour away by public transport.

She asked if she could borrow my trainers cause she didn't want to put her boots back on.

I said yes. We see each other regularly and she was housing for another friend so was going to be only 20 mins by public transport in a few days.

So I've signed up for the gym and joined via a 30 day challenge starting tomorrow. We went to day to meet the people in the group and most people said they were going to book for tomorrow morning.

I asked my friend about my trainers and she said she didn't bring them. She left them at her house an hour away.

I asked when she was going back there. She said not till friend comes back in 12 days.
I told her I need my trainers.

I offered to even pay for a taxi from where she is now, to her house, to mine. And she said it would have to be back to friends house and I need to go collect them from there myself (I assume she doesn't wnat to do the bus journey after?)

I'm mad busy today.

AIBU to think she borrowed my trainers, forget them and it's her responsibility to go and get them because I need them?

Or should I be going to get them? (I would need to get her house key too)

I did offer to pay for her taxi.

I'm feeling a bit annoyed as I helped her out and she knew she wanst going to be home for a fortnight and didn't bring them

She needs to go get them.

BakedTattie · 27/08/2022 13:36

Cf. She needs to go get them.

Branleuse · 27/08/2022 13:36

If you need the trainers, she needs to go get them

FleursSechees · 27/08/2022 13:37

Yes, your friend is being unreasonable but you can't force her to go get the shoes. Just go get them yourself. You can't be that busy today if you've managed to write out a huge post on Mumsnet about it.

staceyflack · 27/08/2022 13:39

You also don't need to pay for taxi. Its entirely HER responsibility to make YOUR trainers available to you. She is being out of order, and you are being a pushover, in my humble opinion. Enjoy the gym when you get there.

staceyflack · 27/08/2022 13:40

🤣 @FleursSechees are you the friend who's borrowed the trainers?

Idontevenknow · 27/08/2022 13:41

If her house is an hour away and you've offered to pay a taxi there and back, you'd be just as cheaper going to the closest supermarket and buying a cheap pair to tide you over for 12 days

jeaux90 · 27/08/2022 13:42

Go buy a cheap pair.

That the friend should pay for

staceyflack · 27/08/2022 13:44

Yeah, your 'friend' should go buy you a cheap pair as an alternative.

So how do you suggest she forces her to get the shoes then? She's being unreasonable yes but not many options available to the OP if the friend wont go get them Confused

You're probably one of those posters who wants to egg on a massive row between the OP and her friend. Shame really.

I'm on a bus going the complete opposite direction to pick up school blazers.

Could it be self sabotage on your part, if you end up not going to the gym because of absent trainers? You might have to buy them yourself for now, to avoid that.

donutdunkincoffee · 27/08/2022 13:48

My friend borrowed brand new trainers. Next time I saw her she was wearing them. She didn’t return them to me for 2 years and then handed them back absolutely battered.

I feel your pain.

I have signed up for a free uber one trial and have a 40% code at the moment so the uber was under £8!

The hour is by public transport and it takes that long as there is a bus interchange half way through and the bus is on a hospital route so it goes all round the houses. By car it's only about 15 mins drive.

How on earth does writing a post that takes all of 5 minutes mean that the OP is not busy today? Are you her diary keeper? No, she obviously can't force her friend to get the trainers, but why on earth should the OP waste her own time (busy or not), having to put herself back in the same position she would be had she not done her friend a favour?

NoSquirrels · 27/08/2022 13:51

But a cheap pair today and charge your friend.

staceyflack · 27/08/2022 13:51

🤣@FleursSechees not at all. I'm just funny.

I don't live near anywhere that sells them. I could go to an aldi, Co op and there's a sainsburies but they're all locals and don't sell shoes.

It would be a bus journey into town to be able to get even a cheap pair.

I hate not being able to drive sometimes :( it's so bloody inconvenient.

I could get a pair from Bezos but I didn't really wanna buy a new pair when I have a perfect pair already

😯@donutdunkincoffee the brass neck of your 'friend' is astonishing... but, did you say 'oi, gimme my trainers back you cf' when you saw her wearing them?

Could you ask her to reimburse you?

Lsquiggles · 27/08/2022 13:59

Whilst it's a bit crappy of your friend that she won't go and get them, I wouldn't have leant a pair of trainers I wear on a regular basis as these things do happen
