Personal space

AIBU to expect people to respect my personal space?

Just back from a UK holiday where we visited a few popular places that required queuing at various times. On multiple occasions the people behind insisted on being literally right behind/next to me, as in if I took a step back I would have stood on them. When I took a small step forward, conscious of the people in front of me, they followed.

I've always hated people in my personal space so it's not a covid thing for me, although that's obviously now another consideration. I did think that covid may make people think twice about standing so close to other people, but it appears not!

Why do people do it? If you're like me what do you do in these situations? I imagine if I were to say anything they'd think I was crazy!

My strategy for this is to stand sideways in a queue. I tend to rock a little bit anyway due to issues with my feet and standing sideways on just allows me to take up more space.

If someone is too close though I have no issues asking them to move back (although DH gets a bit embarrassed when I do it, no idea why 🤷‍♀️)

I'm bloody hate people being in my personal space

It's not just in queues! I've had people walk so close behind me in shops/shopping centres they could clip my heels!

I have used in the past:

Are you trying to get in my back pocket?

Excuse me - 2 words, makes a polite phrase (when they trying to squeeze past me)

Usually when someone is that far up my arse I like them to be pulling my hair (said to my best friend if some twat is so close I can feel him (& it's always a man) breathing)

But then I'm not one for being polite to dickheads

I HATE this. It’s also not a Covid thing but seriously why do people need to be right up your arse?

I take a step forward, they take a step forward. Like are you serious right now. I either turn around and look them dead in the face until they move backwards or say ‘can you give me some space pls’ in a very annoyed tone

I have uttered ‘I’d stand back if I were you’ to a bloke who was hovering over me in a queue.

I thought it was just the right mix of threatening and mysterious.

Oh I'm so stealing this the next time it happens to me, fabulous Grin

Any closer and you'll have to buy me a drink is my usual go to 😜

YANBU @holeyhottub I gets bit passive-aggressive when people do this to me, by finding sneed to stretch and swing around a bit.

And if someone is too close behind me, well - oops!
