To ask the new neighbour how long he's planning on smashing the place up?

Mid terrace, house has been empty for nine months so I know I'm just used to the quiet.

He got the keys on Tuesday, came to say hello and that the house needs a lot of work. He said he'd be back and forth and probably wouldn't move in until the new year.

Since then he's been there for full days (including since 7am this morning) and it's essentially constant banging. My two bedrooms are next to his two so I didn't expect too much renovation noise but it's not stopped. I work from home so more aware of it, admittedly.

This morning has been the worst as I was up all night with the dog.

What would you do? Ignore and hope it passes quickly or ask what the plans are next week?

I feel for you. The man that bought the house next door made constant noise 7 days a week for 13 weeks. Like yours he liked to start drilling and banging at 7am.

Just because it's DIY doesn't make it easier to deal with and it isn't fair that people can just do it and there is nothing you can do.

Ours has continued to be an arse so I wish we had shouted at him at the beginning.

I feel for you. I've had one side do a rebuild for nearly 3 years (fortunately not attached) and the other side (attached) for the past 4 years had 2 sets of neighbours each doing renovations.

The only consolation will be when I do mine I can make noise and disruption without guilt.

Check on your local council's website re: noise nuisance

Thanks for the support! I don't want to make a big deal out of it so ranted here.

I live fairly quietly by myself with my (sometimes gobby) dog so am far more sensitive to noise compared to a busy family, for example.
