do not go into the V and A Dundee, it is a travesty. Very poorly curated and very little in there, it’s great to look at but an appalling exhibition space. Considering the riches in London non of it has made its way north. The only internal space which is any good is the restaurant and shop.

The permanent exhib upstairs is good - some beautiful Scottish heritage design.

its a great building so worth visiting for that too

it does seem a bit empty but definitely worth a visit

Op. Get the train to Edin as the festival is still on and so much to see. It’s an hour on the train.

You can explore the uni quadrangles too - we did that years ago and one of our kids ending up choosing the uni!

there is a cute cinema in st Andrews too for an evening

We’ve been at West Sands today and saw signs of Highland games so that’s on the list too.

If the highland games are on that’s great! We loved the dancing and the caber throwing 😬

Ahnobother · 27/08/2022 19:52

Another vote for the bunker and it's 20 odd years since I've been to it!

TaffyandTeenyTaffy · 27/08/2022 19:57

We enjoyed Craigtoun Country Park, especially if you have kids or dogs.

We also drove up to Loch Ness and Ben Nevis... fab scenery and lots of beautiful picnic spots en route.

ButDoYouAvocado · 27/08/2022 20:00

I second the wee toastie shack, fab toasties right on The beach

Clem90 · 27/08/2022 20:22

Yes to the toastie shack.
Also just off main street in St. andrews is Blackhorn, very good burger place.

Rosesandstars · 27/08/2022 20:32

The Jigger Inn by the golf course is great.

If you want to travel around in Fife, Anstruther has a lovely harbour and Crail has a pretty little cove/beach.

Camera obscura and world of illusions in Edinburgh has lots of interactive stuff to see /do.

Argh! I’ve only seen your post @Creepymanonagoatfarm ! I put my phone away after this. I was in a red coat and would’ve been so easy to spot! Hope you’d a great time! We certainly did.

We’re off to Edinburgh tomorrow.

Thank you for the recommendations so far.

If you’re still there on Saturday- watch out - freshers arrive! Places will be busy with families dropping off kids.

Secret bunker is ace

cataline · 30/08/2022 22:49

Toppings bookshop!

It's gorgeously quirky and you can sit in a cosy armchair and have tea while you browse.

Sevensilverrings · 30/08/2022 23:03
