Does anybody else hate crowds?

I should probably move to a rural place, but I enjoy living in a city.
Live in Manchester city centre and really enjoy all that it has to offer. However, I can't stand how busy it is all the time, especially during school holidays.
You walk into a café and there's nowhere to sit. Queues in Primark go on forever.
I live right in front of a pub with outdoor seating, so often I leave the front door to benches full of people.
The streets are just crowded. Walking to Piccadilly station is a nightmare, you can barely move. Lot of fundraisers etc trying to stop you. Public transport at peak times is full to the brim too. The other day they let so many people on the bus that I had to squeeze past about 15 people standing up to get off at my stop.
I didn't feel this extreme sense of overcrowding in Liverpool for some reason? It was just less stressful.
Maybe I just have to accept this with living in a big city? I live here because there are so many work opportunities, and my partner is here, so add friends and family.

Aldi/Lidl are a nightmare, just not enjoyable at all having to squeeze past people.

Yes I'm with you OP! I think I just don't like people 😂

Haha, same!
I just hate walking to work sometimes along with the hundreds of other people around me doing the same..

Maybe the answer is to move to a smaller town, that still has plenty to do but isn't as busy as a major city? The compromise on amenities would be probably be worth it for the fewer people.

Yeah, possibly moving to a town in Greater Manchester? I always dreamed of living in a city centre, and I love everything about it except for all the people!

I’m very crowd phobic. I live rural, it’s brilliant. I can’t imagine living in a city. I want to go to London to visit but I’m too anxious. I rarely go to the shops, I’ve been maybe 3 or 4 times in the past year. Generally I only leave the house to walk the dog or go to work.

I agree. The Trafford Centre can be crazy busy too. I always know it’s time for me to leave when i’m walking along the mall and a whole gang of people are practically walking on my heels noisily chattering and breathing over me. Hate that.

I work in a supermarket and love when it’s busy as the day flies, but when I’m doing my own shopping crowds drive me insane.

Penguinsaregreat · 17/12/2022 14:36

I agree. I love space and peace and quiet.

I absolutely hate it and if i could move to a farm in the middle of nowhere I would! I like in a town that's popular with tourists ( especially in the summer) and i will not go anywhere near the town centre in the summer. The knock on effect of the traffic makes even living on the outskirts awful! I hate it! Im currently trying to decide when the supermarket will be least busy to do my Christmas food shop!
