Not sure if IABU in thinking this....DH offered a job 5 months ago due to start in 3 weeks. Contracts signed, checks came back fine and worked his notice period at his old job. Phone call today at 9am that the company has restructured and the position no longer exists. Just like that. Gone. We are in the process of buying a new home, he obviously hasn't got a job to go back to. I'm in shock. Can they do this??

shit but unfortunately not uncommon! I work in the recruitment industry and clients put these situations on us a lot! It’s terrible.

The only positive is that it really is a candidate driven market at the moment and there’s an abundance of jobs available - he needs to start applying for other roles. Also, if he’s on LinkedIn I would advise he updates his status to explain the situation honestly (no need to sugar coat it, just say exactly what happened). His inbox will explode.

Has he checked his contract OP? It sounds shit if relocation is involved, but I think legally they can :(
