How to do a wedding that is affordable ?

This is not my wedding but I’m a bridesmaid.

My friend is unwell with an incurable condition, she wishes to get married this year before her condition worsens.

She is getting married at the registry office, and having the dance at the local cricket club which have given her the room at a very good price.

For food they are going to get Chinese takeaway who will cater it (her favourite food).

For the RO, room (including it being dressed up) and Chinese food she’s been quoted ~£500.

What else can we do for the extras to make sure it’s a great day but not expensive.

Thanks

@EL8888 for a bouquet, 4 button holes and a wrist corsage it cost £78. That was in 2018.

See who can provide services rather than gifts.
We had a friend who worked in car hire- he drove the bridesmaids to and from the church; another was a baker- made the cake; a friend of my dad's was an amateur photographer; we even had a family member play the bagpipes.

We got an M&S cake and bought a sugar flower decoration for the top from Amazon. Decorations were bunting donated by my sister and jars with led candles and rosebud wreaths bought from the Range, together with some balloons and some pretty napkins. Cutlery was Asda basics - set of 4 knivrs/forks/spoons/teaspoons for about £1 at time. China we had been collecting from charity shops etc for several months, but mis-matched china from relatives/guests would be fine if there isn't any in the hall. We hired the glasses from waitrose, and when they knew it was for our wedding they gave us a bottle of fizz and a bouquet of flowers. Booze was bought from the supermarket - we bought cava for those who HAVE to have something resembling champagne and really nice Normandy cider in those bottles with champagne style corks, plus a load of alcohol free for the drivers. We only had close family, there were about 40 people. We provided colouring books and some toys for the children in a separate, quiet area. I did the catering and we had 2 friends of my daughter to do all the washing up. We all cleared up afterwards. I would recommend asking guests to do flowers, decorations, cake, photographs etc as wedding presents. I think it is nice to feel that your contribution is valued for such a special occasion.
