Friends Raffle

AIBU not too buy a raffle ticket for an item I do not want for €30? My friend keeps sending me a link to a raffle she is doing but I don't actually want the item she is raffling off. She is set to make over €1000 for an item that costs around €300 if she can sell all the lines. Things are tight at the moment and I just don't have €30 to basically piss away, I just spent a fortune getting three kids back to school.

Do I just continue to ignore the links (4 texts with the link in the last week) or give in a buy a ticket? Also do I come across as stingy by not buying one. I am in noway a stingy or mean person.

She is a next level CF trying to scam you - why are you feeling bad? She should be the one feeling bad!

Do not give her any money.

I’ve just been in the position of having to sell raffle tickets for a fundraiser for DD’s sports team. They were only $5, but even then, I didn’t feel comfortable asking anyone beyond immediate family to buy them. And we bought several ourselves.

And this was for a fundraiser that was going to benefit a group of kids heading to a tournament - not some scammer.

Surely you should actually be questioning whether you want to be friends with such a person.

Am I understanding this correctly?

She won an item (is it a Kitchen Aid?) that she doesn't want, but instead of selling it and profiting that way, she's raffling it off and pocketing the £1380 she's making by selling the tickets at £30 each?!!!

MLM is pyramid schemes such as Younique...Scentsy...Herbalife....Oriflame...and zillions of others....usually the huns (consultants) run these scammy raffles to try to drum up interest in whatever mlm overpriced tat they are desperately trying to flog.

I'd honestly block her, cheeky twat.

AhNowTed · 25/08/2022 22:41

Who are the dopes giving her €30!

KyaClark · 26/08/2022 08:05

Apologies, @fdkc euro, not pound. Habit!

BMW6 · 26/08/2022 08:24

I'd send her a text

  1. I don't want to win the item so won't be buying a ticket
  1. What you're doing is illegal. Withdraw the raffle before someone reports it.
Fraaahnces · 26/08/2022 08:29

I’d send her a personal message asking her to stop. Let her know you’re not interested (no reasons why), or if you want a easier way out, that you can’t afford it.

ArcheryAnnie · 26/08/2022 08:29

I'm an absolute sucker for a raffle, any raffle, whatever the prize, and even I wouldn't be buying a ticket for this. Beyond ridiculous.
