To not want to trial a "mini" festival with a 3yo?

There's this upcoming festival (in reality only two acts are worth it). Tickets aren't super expensive, but once you add transport + food & drink, I think we're looking at £150 at the very least. The problem is, we'd have to take our 3yo with us and I'm almost 100% he'll end up grumpy and we won't be able to see headliners (they're the only ones I'm interested in). DH gets super stressed when our DS gets upset, so it just seems like not the best use of £150. It it had been just £50 altogether I wouldn't have minded so much as we would just leave whenever our son has had enough.

Don't go then

Surtsey · 25/08/2022 15:05

Can you go on your own or with a friend, and leave him at home with dc?

Relocatiorelocation · 25/08/2022 15:06

I've never understood people taking dc to festivals. Surely it's a time to let your hair down, have a few cans of overpriced cider and dance like a loon. All impossible with a 3 year old.
Can't you flip a coin to who goes?

Dotjones · 25/08/2022 15:07

Doesn't sound like you're that keen on going, why not stay at home with the child and let the DH go if he wants?

Tigofigo · 25/08/2022 15:07

We went to festivals when my DC were that age and younger and they loved it. But if you don't think it's right for now, don't go.

More pressingly, your DH needs help not getting super stressed when your DS gets upset. Maybe use the £150 to get him some therapy around that.

I've done it with mine since they were 2, always had a great time and been able to do all of those things!

I've suggested he goes on his own.... I'm not necessarily against it, but maybe if was more keen on the acts??

@Relocatiorelocation I have been taking my kids to festivals for the last 15 years. I love it and can do all those things you mentioned.

Hugasauras · 25/08/2022 15:20

Depends on your child, really, I think. I could do it with DD1 and I think we would all have fun but she's v easy going about stuff like this and handles routines being disrupted, long days, etc. fine as long as there are snacks. In your case it just sounds stressful, so I wouldn't bother!

Me too. Well not for as long as they are still younger than that but at plenty of festivals and had a great time.

FusionChefGeoff · 25/08/2022 15:52

Which festival? At some you can hire trolleys that you pad out with pillows and blankets and kids fall asleep whilst adults enjoy the music!

gogohmm · 25/08/2022 15:55

Kids love festivals, well mine did. Dd1 did her first at 5 months. If what you really mean is you don't fancy it, fine but don't hide behind the kid. Kids adapt to what their parents introduce them too

Wonnle · 25/08/2022 15:57

Why can't anyone make up their own minds on what they want to do these days ?
