Whenever a interesting post pops up with quite a lot of comments, several more posts that are very very similar appear… if that makes sense?
for example, the post about exchanging Xmas presents that was made earlier, there’s now quite a few posts that have popped up about the same subject?
it seems to happen everyday. 1 person posts about their neighbours parking, 6 other posts appear an hour later about neighbours parking.
do these people not have any original thoughts?

Oh. OP... I've seen this type of thread two or three times today already.... 😁

Our brains are wired to look for patterns. You are probably not noticing all the threads with few comments about parking.

I see lots of threads criticising and analysing Mumsnet users. That the sort of thing you mean?

I think it's a form of slow-motion conversation. People's memories and feelings are jogged by things they read here, so they post about their own experiences along the same lines. MN serves a useful social function in that respect - motherhood can be very isolating at times.

I was thinking this myself! It's the same with ridiculous threads in the baby names section.

There was a very popular thread a few weeks ago about an absurd baby name and the silly name threads haven't stopped since 🙄

I think people see an opportunity for a popular/controversial post and run with it.

This. People see someone asking for advice on a subject and go "oh! I was wondering about this too, I could start a thread about it"
