Clarin's Flash Balm - yet another love ruined - AIBU to wonder why companies do this?

This is a bit S&B but I am disappointed so AIBU.

Just got my rare birthday treat of replacement flash balm to find...

the formula has changed completely to a sticky super glue like gel that smells like that really nasty liquid soap you get in public loos that never washes off right. Oh and it looks like semen with a hint of pink! 😱

Why do companies do this? Who decides a bestselling product that has been a favourite for years ought to be done away with completely? Is there an actual belief by cosmetics companies that we won't notice that our favourite moisturiser has been replaced by itchy stinky semen soap?

I am a sensitive soul with highly reactive skin so the number of products I can use is very limited to begin with, it gets smaller every year. Is there a list somewhere of cheap dupes to replace done away with formulations?

Original Source mint shower gel is another one, that was ace for years and then they replaced it with some sort of semen glue that stops it mixing with water and makes me look like I have had an all over acid peel.

AIBU to say boo to "reformulation" (eg vanishing favourite products) and why don't they just bring out a new product alongside instead of replacing a popular one and pretending it's the same?

Its probably an ingredient that has been banned rather than just wanting to use cheaper ingredients. There's were a few banned for use in cosmetic and fragranced products in january. They could be sold up to the end of April then destroyed

Liz earle changed their skin toner formula and due to many unhappy customers they changed it back!

I thought it had changed years ago as I found it pilled easily, as did others judging from past threads.

I am quite intrigued about the ingredient that has been banned..... Is this a worldwide thing, as I am not in the UK. I wonder if its the same here?

Yes. And the Comfort cleansing balm. I hate Clarins.

I suspect it was more to do with the sharp decline in sales as loyal customers got fed up and went looking for other brands….
Liz Earle have shot themselves in the foot badly…. They have just lost out to Elemis for the Qvc best cleanser award. Liz Earle have won it every year until now..

I had quick look to see what items are being discontinued with that ingredient in... didn't see any Clarins on the list, but I am quite shocked about how many perfumes are there...... Just realized now why we had such huge sales on some perfumes. And one of those I bought dd for Christmas.....

I am going to try get a new sample of BFB when I go to the shops, so I can see if I get semen or a useful primer....

YANBU! Clarins stopped making a water based toner that I loved and replaced it with some mountain dewy herb concoction that stinks!! I managed to track some of the original stuff at an airport but it’s sadly running out. I do have a ton of the flash balm. I would be happy to post you some if you pm me as I never use it 😀

Yes, the Pure Melt. I really loved that. I used a Boots dupe for a bit and then that got discontinued too. I now use Sali Hughes Clean Sheet!

The foaming cleansers have changed as well, smells like moth balls, vile. I got a sample after not using it for years and honestly though it had been tampered with.

Said goodbye to Clarins a while ago and have found much better products for less. We get into a routine of only using the same things, but this pushes customers to try other brands and have recommendations for other products.

I honestly think two of the most awful products they have is the double serum and the eye serum, a waste of money IMHO!

OP, I’ll double check as I might still have some that I can send you. People kept giving me it and at one point I sold about 4 sealed tubes but I think I kept one that wasn’t sealed. it’s something I’ve never used.

Yep and benefits sizes have got tiny in their liquid blush 🙄 I couldn’t find posie tint at the airport or on boots, but other online places are selling it 🤔

I’m still upset over Gucci Envy being discontinued over 10 years ago

a kind poster informed me why only last week on a thread about perfumes (the creator left Gucci and there was a fall out) it didn’t smell like other perfumes and was so lovely and fresh

Also loved benefits lusty rose lipstick but they seem to have discontinued all their lipsticks.

I truly believe that beauty companies Research and Development teams change things deliberately just to justify their own existence.

@VaVaVoombangabang I hvae to disagree - I love the double serum. It seems to make all my other products work better. And ironically, I've been working it out and I'm not sure it IS that much more expensive. My Neutrogena hyularonic serum is £20 but doesn't last that long while my Double Serum lasts 11 months!

OP - take a look at the Bobbi Brown Vitamin Enriched primer. I absolutely love it. I use it under make up. I use it sometimes by itself just to make myself feel less tired. I am now inspired by your comment re beauty flash balm to try using it OVER my make up to refresh myself halfway through the day. I don't use it daily (too expensive for that level of use), but I do love it when I do use it.

I have to agree with you, the double serum lasts for ages. But since I started using vitamin c in the morning and retinol at night, I'm not sure when to fit it in. So I haven't been using it, but this has prompted me to start again.
