This country is going down the toilet. The news is full of people being
stabbed/shot, there is the energy crisis, general cost of living crisis, the rail strike, Felixstowe strike, rumours of Civil service strike (will anyone notice that) teachers, barristers, NHS staff, NHS dentistry, GP services, drought , and on and on. I suppose at least we arent being bombed . I think I need to stop watching the news and stick my head in the sand instead

I recommend deactivating social media and not watching any tv news or reading any news sites for a few weeks.

Life becomes a lot easier. You’ll hear the biggest news through conversation or because it’s plastered everywhere (e.g. here)

The thing to try to keep in mind is that the news is always like this. It's overwhelmingly negative and always has been.

Watch news from the 80s and there will be famine, IRA bombings, strikes, unemployment, property crashes, the threat of the USSR, serial killers, AIDS, etc etc. New providers make money from negativity - it attracts more viewers and readers.

If you took the news from any day in history you'd probably get the opinion that society was going to imminently collapse. It felt like it was at the time, but it didn't.

Look at the news only once a day - either by buying an actual newspaper (which can be good as there are loads more articles than you'd be likely to find via online browsing, and even if you only glance over a page, you'll get a much broader view than looking at a website where it gives 'top stories' but three of them might be different takes on just one item)

Or by choosing one site to look at once a day

Or by choosing one bulletin to watch/listen to, once a day

And consider, as an adjunct, planning a weekly look at sites such as PositiveNews or EverWideningCircles

I've barely looked at any news since the start of the summer holidays and I feel so much better. So that's my tip.

Shit! Speak for yourself.

on one holiday in uk - it’s bliss
my children are happy at school
I had a minor op on nhs a fortnight ago and it was flawless
Both children had an nhs dental check up booked for next week

life feels pretty bloody good tbh

I think it's not just about the negative news it's also the sensationalist ways the media portrays it .

Personally I've stopped watching it .

Don't forget the strikes by some Royal Mail and BT / Openreach workers!

Honestly, if it isn't directly affecting your life then ignore. There are plenty of things that do impact us on a day to day basis but I can't be worrying about things in the news that I have no control over or won't have a direct or tangible impact. If we did that we would be nerveous wrecks!
I am sure we will muddle through somehow.

School holidays nearly over! That's usually good news!
