I am so sorry you are going through this. You might have a very long wait. Hope for the best but your case might be pulled and relisted next year or even 2024. Prepare for the worst.

The strike will continue until the justice secretary makes serious investment in the criminal justice service. But the problems with your case don’t begin with the strike. Many cases were being pulled and relisted repeatedly even before the strike, and in fact well before the pandemic, (some 3+ times) because there aren’t enough judges, aren’t enough safe court rooms, and aren’t enough sitting days allowed by the justice secretary to get the cases heard in court. This is all due to a deliberate lack of financial investment in the court system over decades. Politicians know generally the public aren’t bothered about investment in justice because only a minority of people will need to use the courts, and a large proportion of them choose not to vote. It doesn’t affect people generally, until it does.

Wow I appreciate your frank and honest answer

What can I do !!!

Not much really

I am innocent
We are safe

The only consolation is the work I currently do now with victims of DV and how I find programmes to help others

May well he waiting til 2024
Who bloody knows

And to everyone else in this position
It is worth it

Don't lose heart

So say some cases next week don't go ahead and for example the strike somehow ends next oct
Would that mean that maybe cases set for November go ahead as expected??

Sorry for all these questions just tried to get some clarity

You could try asking in Legal OP. There’s bound to be some criminal solicitors on there.

Queenie6655 · 14/09/2022 10:58

Thank you

@Queenie6655 strikes are still ongoing but word on the street is that now Raab has gone, negotiations are likely to resume and more likely to be productive...

Queenie6655 · 14/09/2022 11:02

Well that is good to know

Thanks so much

I've been called for Jury service mid-October so I guess the courts are expecting something to be going ahead at that point?

IncessantNameChanger · 15/09/2022 10:11

My friends serious sexually assault/gbh case will be just under 4 years by the time its heard. She is seriously toying with the idea of dropping charges and she has compelling evidence. If its delayed again ( postponed once already) . It's all kinds of wrong but I don't blame her.

I'm sorry this happening to you OP

Queenie6655 · 15/09/2022 10:14

So sorry for your friend

How is she??

What has she heard?
I'm wondering if hers may go ahead??

We just don't flipping know

And that's so so hard

OP posts:
IncessantNameChanger · 15/09/2022 10:23

Thanks, she is not good. Needs edrm for ptsd but can't have it until after the case. In horrible limbo. Due to be heard late Dec, postponed from Oct.

Her entire treatment has really shocked me. Everything about her case went wrong from the moment she told the police. No companion or dignity.

Queenie6655 · 15/09/2022 10:25

Whaaaat??!!

I'm fuming for her
This is too common

My officer in. Charge was lovely

But there are some things that I have queries about re CPS and no one listens

It should have gone ahead last oct but a member of the jury asked a v v important question so as a result postponement for 14 months

Aghhhhhhhh

OP posts:
Queenie6655 · 15/09/2022 10:35

Just rang the court house

Got a lovely clerk
They cant give any answers

But the cases listed now are still listed but of course the defence barrister is not in attendance so many not going ahead

Ahhh what a mess

And those barristers are well within their rights to do so

Can not blame them

System is fcked

Hope you're doing ok @Queenie6655. I'm not in the same situation but have been waiting to hear if my case is being passed to the CPS by the police and found out this week it isn't as there isn't enough evidence.
I'm disappointed and relieved, it's a weird feeling.

A case involving a family friend’s DD (as the victim) - was due to start last week. Now delayed until at least 2024. Charge is sexual assault on a minor.

The ‘party of law and order’ have a LOT to answer for. But the right-leaning tabloids were all over the ‘fat cat lawyers’ BS a few years ago, when the Tories first started hacking away at Legal Aid, so it’s a bit rich that rags like the Fail are (currently) supportive of junior barristers.
