Husband has been shopping

So my husband isn't the best around the house but not the worst either. He will tidy up after dinner, cook if he's home on time, load the dishwasher, sort the bins but not much else. He does spend a lot of time with the kids taking them to all their activities so he's definitely not lying around all the time. However he is terrible at picking up after himself and it drives me mad. So on Sunday he needed bin bags and went to Home Bargains to buy some. He came home with a bag bulging full of toothpastes, shower gels, baby wipes etc and left it on the kitchen counter. It's still there and I know for a fact it will stay there until I empty it and put all the stuff away. AIBU to leave it there in protest so he puts it away himself? It just drives me mad that he has no concept of putting things away.. like he's been to the shop he's so proud of himself, but leaves me to do the rest!!

Just ask him what he’s planning to do with it.

TooMuchToDoTooLittleInclination · 23/08/2022 09:04

Put it on his side of the bed. I wouldn't leave it lying around annoying me!!

ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 23/08/2022 09:05

My Dh leaves shit like screws and pliers everywhere. I just pile them on the seat he usually sits on.

Creepymanonagoatfarm · 23/08/2022 09:07

Step Away from the bag op! It needs a sign
Dad's Shopping..
And leave it alone.

See how long it is there.
Next week new signage:
Happy 1 week Birthday Dad's Shopping
Seriously you are not The Putter Away Of Stuff.

karmakameleon · 23/08/2022 09:08

I have a box. Anything left lying around goes in the box. If he can’t find something it’s usually in the box. Saves me having to put it away and also isn’t in my way.

Prunel · 23/08/2022 09:08

DH does this. But he also does a million helpful things
and I do some annoying things too around the house that he wishes I wouldn’t, and just sorts out for me without complaint
so I’d just put it away

Beamur · 23/08/2022 09:08

If my DH does this (he hates putting shopping away) I will ask him to put it away, but wait until I'm busy doing something like unloading the dishwasher. This makes it very hard for him to refuse or avoid ☺️

crystalls · 23/08/2022 09:09

Oops i do this 🙈

Good idea

Everything he leaves around put it on his side of the bed.

mountainsunsets · 23/08/2022 09:11

Drives me mad.

I put it all in a box and shove it out of the way in a cupboard.

KermitlovesKeyLimePie · 23/08/2022 09:14

What did he say when you asked him to move it?

chillipenguin · 23/08/2022 09:17

Dump it on his side of the bed

BarryK3nt · 23/08/2022 09:22

So just tell him to put it away.

Shoxfordian · 23/08/2022 09:25

Leave it until he sorts it out

He doesn’t sound that good round the house to me; don’t accept the absolute basic as being good

Itstrueiagree · 23/08/2022 09:31

Oh yeh the look I'm so proud to have done the shopping display monster. I've one of those. Worse as I have one thats a shopping that should've gone in the fridge version. Try holding out not putting that away. Its a bloody killer!🤣😂🤣😂🤣

Oh dear me no I couldn't!!!

Thesefeetaremadeforwalking · 23/08/2022 09:37

I had one like this.

I had to train him that 'doing the shopping' isn't just wandering around the supermarket putting items in a basket/trolley.

It includes checking cupboards and the fridge/freezer before you leave, then making a list so you know what you need

It also includes bringing them home and putting them away in the correct places.

Just tell him you aren't the "putting-it-all-away fairy".

DettyPig · 23/08/2022 09:40

My husband has learnt that anything that’s left lying around after I’ve asked three times gets chucked out into the garden. Rain or shine. He has learnt this the hard way!

Oh he said he would and I'm still waiting

Love this but I couldn't look at it for a week! I'm thinking of moving it to the middle of the bottom of the stairs but I know he'll probably walk around it.. or he may bring it up and leave it on the bed and then it'll be another stand off!!!

In your situation I would be quite happy to put the stuff away if he went to the effort of buying it. It’s for the family and you’ll all use it. It’s not like he’s some lazy arse who does nothing for his DC or around here house.

If I go shopping DH will unload the car & help me unpack.

ranoutofquinoaandprosecco · 23/08/2022 10:05

I put all my DHs shut he's left all over on top of his laptop or iPad, seems to get sorted then! Touch passive aggressive I know Grin

queenMab99 · 23/08/2022 10:05

My late husband was like this, he was at one time, a decorator and bought 2 very large tubs of white paint, while it was on offer, and left them in our kitchen, I asked him to move them several times, as they were too heavey for me to shift. They were there for months, I am a very patient person. After a while I put a small embroidered tablecloth over them and a vase of flowers on top, he didn't notice. It was only when he started looking for his paint for a job, that I pointed them out to him.
He also used to empty his pockets of small change, and receipts and leave them on the floor by his side of the bed. I picked them up once and put them in a tray on the dressing table, so I could vacuum the floor. He couldn't find them and was grumbling, when I told him I had moved them. I heard him mutter something about him 'trying to run a business here!' I burst out laughing and even he had to agree that it was funny.

It's the equivalent of cave man leaving a dead animal at the cave doorway isn't it?
Do his knuckles trail op??!!

In our house putting the shopping away is one of 'my' jobs so this wouldn't bother me. I get quite irritated when DP tries to put the shopping away because he doesn't understand my system.

'My' jobs = cooking, loading dishwasher, putting shopping away, cleaning kitchen and bathroom, garden stuff, mending things/DIY
'DP' jobs = laundry, bins, hoovering, dusting, changing beds and towels, household admin and finances, general errands, driving, planning and booking things,
