To not want to pay for my landlord's electric?

I’ve name changed for this because I asked for work advice previously.

I moved into my house earlier this year with my partner. We verbally agreed the landlord can have exclusive access to the garage and our tenancy agreement does not refer to the garage or access. A few months ago we caught the landlord going into the garage, I was more annoyed at the time about the lack of notice. She might be legally entitled to enter but I think it’s polite to give us a heads up about coming round, especially as the garage door angle means she can look directly into the living room and kitchen. She goes into the garage quite a lot and I never knew why. Anyway, the landlord knocked on the door on Thursday and told my partner the electric was off in the garage. The landlord mentioned the meat in her chest freezer had gone off, my partner goes to check and finds the fuse has tripped off. We’ve never noticed it as it’s under the stairs and has a cover, obviously we don’t have access ourselves so we didn’t realise anything was amiss in the garage.

My partner turned the fuse back on and the landlord has been clearing it out this morning. She left the door open and I noticed her putting more food back into the chest freezer. I’ve been thinking about it since this morning and I’m starting to get annoyed, we pay for the electric in the garage! There’s no mention of the garage or access in the contract so I don't think the electricity is included in the rent. She’s charges market value for the house. I have no idea how much a chest freezer costs to run each year but I resent paying for it and anything else that might be in there. AIBU to ask the landlord to remove it or switch it off? Maybe I am being unreasonable but I am worried about energy bills this Autumn.

Well technically you can take the fuse out again. You rent it so it’s yours to do that to.

Tell her, and ask to renegotiate the rent.

So depending on the size of it here is estimated cost www.ukchestfreezers.co.uk/chest-freezer-energy-consumption
Ask for a rent reduction accordingly

If it's an old freezer it could be using LOTS. I would definitely tell you that she needs to get a separate power line installed.

Chest freezers are expensive to run, especially if its older, and thats as cheeky as fuck to expect you to pay for it
