Just finished watching Episode 4 and have really enjoyed it - brilliant acting and story telling. I can’t understand why it has had such a slating - AIBU to say I thought it was great !

Does it get better as I turned it off midway through the second episode? Found Sean Bean annoying.

Barnybrown · 21/08/2022 23:18

I think it’s worth sticking with it - we really enjoyed it . He is annoying but also quite a sad character and he acts it so well

I've just watched episode 1 and thought it was fantastic. Almost like a horror movie wrapped up to look like a sitcom. I have so many questions!

I can understand why some people didn't get on with it as it's not like anything else around at the moment so it may challenge expectations especially around pacing. I loved the attention to detail and the minutiae of the whole thing. Also the sense that they could have been anyone, the camera wasn't always focused on them.

Barnybrown · 21/08/2022 23:20

Oh God - it gets better and better, you are going to love the rest of it if you enjoyed episode 1 !

Love it ! Got episode 4 to watch yet x

Iamthewombat · 21/08/2022 23:24

I liked it a lot too. There’s not really anything else like it on TV.

Allywill · 21/08/2022 23:25

I liked it but I get why many people didn’t. I think it helped I had read a lot of the reviews and knew not to expect a traditional drama.

GNfan · 21/08/2022 23:26

Because of time constraints, I've only watched the first episode so far, but I LOVED it. Everything about it was so clever, the daft arguments, the undertones, the pathos, the fashion. Can't wait to watch the other episodes.

TheMooch · 21/08/2022 23:29

Just watched episode 3.

I love it. But have to be in the mood - need proper focus cos' I have to watch the non-vocal dialogue closely.

Utterly spellbinding and It was the quiet mundanity of it all that made it so. Definitely one to watch with no distractions so you can take it in. The scene where Nicola Walker makes her Dad a sandwich is a case in point. I couldn't take my eyes off James Bolam's face.

Barnybrown · 21/08/2022 23:42

I know - all of the acting is fantastic. Every facial expression and movement - so much is conveyed without any dialogue at all

Me too. So sensitively and astutely written and acted.

Moddo · 21/08/2022 23:54

It reminds me of an old fashioned sitcom, slower paced like Butterflies but not sad.

spiderlight · 22/08/2022 00:03

I thought it was a work of bleak, quiet genius - a four-hour howl of anguish from Sean Bean's character, who'd had the ground ripped out from beneath his feet and had no idea how to exist or feel useful without his job and his mother to define him. The last episode was a bit flat but I really liked the first three. The music scared the crap out of me the first time though!

koalallama464 · 22/08/2022 00:10

YANBU I really liked it. I understand why others might not.... but I love shows like this.

buckeejit · 22/08/2022 14:17

I loved it. For those who liked it, try Shtisel - an Orthodox Jewish drama & my favourite show

Barnybrown · 22/08/2022 18:10

Ooh thanks for the recommendation - I will give that a try ! X
