Who is BU?

Married couple, one DC, going on a city break tomorrow, within a 2 hour drive. Check in is from 3pm.

Person A gets a last minute slot for a wanted but non-urgent appointment for the morning of the break. Booked in last week, checked with Person B at time of booking, all fine. Tells Person B the time of the appointment, and communicated "ready to leave by 12"

Person B (tonight) asks about the length of the appointment to plan the morning, it is longer than they anticipated, but they didn't ask at the time. This means we leave later than they had anticipated but with time. Lunch may be pushed back slightly which could result in a grumpy DC. It is possible to take snacks on the journey.

Person B is pissed and now disinterested in sorting the plan for tomorrow. Person A is consequently annoyed because things need to be sorted regardless.

Who is BU?

YABU - Person A is U
YANBU - Person B is U

You clearly can’t be there for lunch if leaving at 12pm with a 2 hour drive. I’d say for the hair dresser YABU

mondaytosunday · 21/08/2022 23:18

Omg what a fuss about nothing! You said 12, that's the agreed time. Now he wants to go earlier for lunch - is that the issue? Just say you'll be ready for 12 as originally agreed.
Jeez I wish my problems were this easy.

huuskymam · 21/08/2022 23:54

It's a bit of a hullabaloo about nothing really. You said you'd be done by 12, just stop for lunch on the way or before you leave. Also bring some snacks. 2 hours isn't that long a drive. And check in is from 3, you don't have to be there exactly at 3.

LuftBalloons · 22/08/2022 06:17

it is longer than they anticipated, but they didn't ask at the time.

They shouldn’t have had to. Person A should have explained fully. Person A is BU.

Ok I'm person A and it is the hairdresser.

Dh is annoyed because he thought the appointment would be an hour tops even though I said I would be home and ready to go by 12. Dh is sober, not sure where that came from.

He wanted to go there for lunch, which we can still do but because he's a bit anally retentive with planning that stuff he's annoyed.

I guessed you were A but was assuming it was a medical sort of appointment. YABU. Get your hair done another time!!!

fufflecake · 22/08/2022 06:25

Has B taken annual leave for this?

anotherpotoftea · 22/08/2022 06:27

I wouldn’t have accepted the hair appointment.

But she said she'd be ready to leave at 12, which she will. That's explained enough.

Person B sounds anal. And I'd love nice hair for a break.

Shoxfordian · 22/08/2022 06:34

It doesn’t seem like you are going to be there for lunch if you’re not ready to leave until 12

Is it usually so difficult to communicate?

lickenchugget · 22/08/2022 06:34

I think it’s a bit U to hold up a family break for the hairdresser… it’s fair enough and you can I do what you like but I understand why he’s annoyed.

My DH apparently can’t go on holiday or a night away without a haircut and cutting the grass.. it drives me insane tbh as he doesn’t work it into his time before we go and we all end up waiting on him.

ANiceBigCupOfTea · 22/08/2022 06:35

This sounds like an argument over absolutely nothing.
Go get your hair done. Can DC not have something to tide them over then you all eat when you arrive?

You said in your post he was pissed!

Hotandbothereds · 22/08/2022 06:41

So you were going to leave at 12 originally, you’re still going to be ready to leave at 12, I don’t see the issue?

Is he annoyed because he now has to sort out DC in the morning who he’d assumed you would do?

You were never going to arrive before 2 even if you weren’t going out in the morning, as long as you’re packed and ready to go I don’t get what the issue is?

fannyfan · 22/08/2022 06:41

@SnackSizeRaisin she meant pissed off not drunk

Hotandbothereds · 22/08/2022 06:42

SnackSizeRaisin · 22/08/2022 06:40

You said in your post he was pissed!

I think she means pissed off 😆

fannyfan · 22/08/2022 06:43

I I thought it was about a medical appointment! I wouldn't be getting my hair done on the morning of a family trip away.

Nobetterthansheoughttobe · 22/08/2022 06:48

fannyfan · 22/08/2022 06:41

@SnackSizeRaisin she meant pissed off not drunk

because so many english people are parroting US 'engliish'. Stupidity on steroids

girlmom21 · 22/08/2022 06:50

I'd be pissed if DP booked an appointment the morning of us going away because all the last minute crap would be left to me to deal with.

Despairingof · 22/08/2022 06:53

You’re being unreasonable, a hair appointment isn’t necessary and puts unnecessary time pressure in. It would be much nicer to
leave at 11, have lunch, short stroll and then check in. Leaving at 12 doesn’t leave enough time.

Sswhinesthebest · 22/08/2022 06:57

I’d be annoyed at waiting for you
but
It’s his fault for not listening to you about leaving at 12. When you told him that, then that was the time to tell you to cancel the appointment.

crossstitchingnana · 22/08/2022 07:07

I'd be pissed off having to wait due to a hairdressers appointment.
