She’s becoming really hairy

My Dd just turned 4 and started to get light coloured hair on her legs around 3, recently she’s had a lot more on her legs and arms, even on her thighs. It’s blonde because she’s fair but it’s really quite noticeable. Is this ok/normal? I mean, she obviously looks absolutely fine but I’m just wondering if you develop this much hair so young?
I’m fairly hairy, but mainly it’s more noticeable because I’m brunette (if I don’t shave etc) but I don’t remember getting hair until much later.

Anyone had similar? Is this ok/normal?

Yep. Totally normal. Both my girls have had noticeable hair from quite age. They're dark-haired as well so it's not quite so invisible as blonde. Don't worry and don't mention it - you'll just make her self conscious and she does not need to be worrying about body image at 4.

VestaTilley · 21/08/2022 22:17

Totally normal- I was like this and so is my 3 y/o DS.

Please don’t comment on it or make a thing of it. It doesn’t matter, and it’ll be years before anyone else notices - and there’s nothing wrong with body hair!

DD17 has been very very hairy from birth. She was so hairy when she was born that the midwives all came to stroke her!
It went blonde when she was about 6 months and she is now 17 and still very hairy! She waxes underarms and legs but has a very hairy belly/back and arms. Luckily she loves it and sometimes sits stroking her hairy little belly in the evening watching the TV 😂

My DS(7) has quite hairy legs, and has done since he was about 4. He was rather a hairy baby too, even his ears were hairy. His eyebrows are epic too.

My little brother was really hairy from birth - he had hairy ears like a PP mentioned - all along the edges of his ears was furry and he had a hairy tummy and back even as a tiny baby - it was super cute

Pleasecreateausername77 · 21/08/2022 22:34

Definitely won’t mention it and it definitely isn’t an issue, was only wondering from a medical point of view if it was ok. A lot has appeared quite recently and even Dh mentioned it to me. She’s so so fair that I was quite surprised…not the dark, hairy type like me 🤣

It's normal for some children.

Dyra · 21/08/2022 22:38

Apparently normal. I looked this up the other day as 3yo DD has quite a lot of hair on her back. As with others, she was quite a hairy baby at birth. I'd also forgotten there's family history, as youngest DSis also has a hairy back. Just don't do anything to remove the hair.

MeadowHay · 21/08/2022 22:41

My DC1 is the same age and I've noticed this recently too. Was also quite a hairy baby tho. I'm v hairy myself and similar colouring to them - olive skin, and dark hair. Seems they just take after me in that regard. Reassuring to read this is a 'normal' age for it to start growing!

Kanaloa · 21/08/2022 22:43

Of course it’s normal and ok. Some kids are hairier than others. It’s extremely unlikely to be anything worrying! We just never notice it on other kids because how close do you get to someone else’s preschooler’s legs? But I work in childcare and have seen plenty of children who have hair on their legs. When my son was little he had hair on his arms and legs and back like a little werewolf. I still remember stroking it as he fell asleep. Weirdly he doesn’t have hair on his back now. It seemed to lighten/go as he got older. Or maybe because his skin darkened a bit or something! Not sure.

Humans grow hair everywhere except soles of feet and palms of hands. Some ppl are hairier than others and in some it is more noticeable.

Whoactuallythinksthat · 21/08/2022 23:59

I remember one day washing my ds’ hair when he was about 4 or 5 and noticing these weird white scratches down his back. On closer inspection I realised it was just streaks where the water had made rivers through his back hair!!
Very normal op. Don’t worry.

I was the same too when i was little

Its accepted for boys. Not for girls. The world is skewed.

It is what it is op. Dont go give her a complex about it. Raise her strong
