Mumsnet just short-circuited my brain - real life interactions.

I just got utterly confused at work ….. the other colleague I’m with isn’t on Mumsnet (once I worked out what was going on I double checked).

Having a chat about a dozy colleague and a security issue. Was only half brain engaged as the issue didn’t really involved me when colleague almost shouted “Cancel the cheque!!!!” I immediately apologised for suggesting my last comment and said that I suppose a lot of people had already suggested it, when she clarified that no. What she actually needed to do was cancel a cheque. This literally flummoxed me for a good 20/30 seconds as my Mumsnet and my mind appear to have completely erased the concept that cancelling a cheque is something you can do - rather than a short hand/in-joke.

has Mumsnet overridden anyone else’s mind with anything or AIBU in thinking I ought to stop reading forthwith.

😂

The colleague is now really confused about why I keep asking whether she’s on Mumsnet & reassuring me that she’s not pregnant.

I don’t even know where to go from here other than to just shut up and stop digging.

Several years ago I was shopping and challenged a customer who was being very rude to the shop assistant with the words "did you mean to be that rude?".

Customer looked at me, said "Fucking mumsnet" and stormed out.

I get really angry at shit/unreasonable parking now then briefly get confused why no one else seems to notice...

Mortonpup · 21/08/2022 18:16

I've said "no is a complete sentence" and been met with blank looks !

Sparklingbrook · 21/08/2022 18:18

I have very nearly used DS/DD/DH etc in texts by accident.

mackthepony · 21/08/2022 18:18

I once said, am I being unreasonable? to real people and expected surreptitious snorts and crafty looks but got nothing. Nothing

V disappointed

mackthepony · 21/08/2022 18:19

I used FIL once with someone and they knew what I meant

But I don't think that's unique to Mn?

I heard someone say that on the radio the other day.

Justleaveitblankthen · 21/08/2022 18:22

Yes! Just a couple of days ago I used the term:
"Thank you for your advice Mr Random Stranger man" 😁

Ha ha, I’m a teacher, I often use Am I Being Unreasonable with students when we need to have a chat, and inwardly chuckle.

Oh Tydfil

When I first joined MN and was TTC, there was a car on my road with the numberplate FMU which used to make me laugh. I think it's more widely used than just on MN but that was my brain association every day I saw it!

Mummyratbag · 21/08/2022 18:55

@Sportycustard that really made me chuckle

justiceandtruth · 21/08/2022 19:28

There was also talk about a customer that says he’s been on an extremely expensive holiday to Mexico recently. I managed to not ask if he was a house thief though. So there wasn’t a complete brain breakdown with that one at least.
