To ask how to stop slugs in the house?

They are driving me insane. Every morning I come down to slug trails all over the house.
through the kitchen, into the living room and all over the carpet, rug and sofa.

I can’t put pellets down as I have a cat that will be stupid and try to eat them.

Is there anything I’m likely to already have in the house that will discourage them?

I suspect they must come in somewhere behind the washer, but I can’t get behind there to check.

All the slime just makes me feel sick and icky.

You can get copper tape, designed to go around plant pots - slugs don't travel over it as it gives them electric shocks. We had this with slugs a few years ago so ran this tape across the doorway where the slugs were getting in, worked.

Try salt .

HarleyQuinnFan · 22/08/2022 21:13

I put salt around the back door and all around the washer.

This morning the salt has not been disturbed but slug trails on my carpet :(

so I’ve now put salt along where the kitchen door meets the carpet.

Bloody slugs.

I think I put slug pellets outside on the back doorstep. If it's an indoor cat could you do similar and also outside wherever you think they're sneaking in near the dishwasher?

Check for leaks behind your appliances and under the floor. Even just a small drip will attract them. Speaking from experience!

Strawberries86 · 22/08/2022 21:53

I have the same problem OP!

FarmerRefuted · 22/08/2022 21:57

Use a torch to follow the trail back to where its started/ended, that'll tell you where they're getting in. Once you know then look at filling in any small gaps (check exterior walls too), possibly putting pellets down where your cat can't get them, copper tape, etc.

hapinthewood · 22/08/2022 21:58

I had this when I had an old timber back door. Since changed for upvc and not a bugger in sight

Slig pellets from wilko are brilliant for outdoors.

ScienceMummy15 · 22/08/2022 22:04

Another vote for copper tape! Bought from amazon and it even looks quite pretty.

MrsMoastyToasty · 22/08/2022 22:09

We had a leak underneath the house just before the internal stop tap. The water was making the earth nice and damp. We got the leak repaired and haven't seen a slug since.

Angelinflipflops · 22/08/2022 22:11

Find out where they enter. Fill it with filler

Lachimolala · 22/08/2022 22:17

I have this issue too! Every night at least 2/3 in the house. I’ve pinpointed they’re coming in from underneath the skirting boards and behind the washing machine. I’ve put beading down in the front front but it’s not fully sealed the gap and my landlord won’t let me do anything else.

It’s really stressful because like you I feel disgusting. I’ve resorted to putting down salt everywhere and wiping it up in a morning.

HarleyQuinnFan · 23/08/2022 07:53

Well the additional salt did not work. Do they climb up bloody walls?

it’s very frustrating.

once I get paid in a week I’m going to look at the copper tape and give that a try.

OP we've had slugs in our house a few years & hav tried so much, my husband has spent hours filling every possible hole he can see, we've tried pellets, salt, copper tape, copper coins. The other night I grabbed my wine bottle from the floor & there was a slug on it right where I put my hand. Last year DD1 found one in the morning & put it in his mouth my husband had to fish it out & all the slime too... last night hubby ran down for calpol & found about 15 of them!!! I'm seriously ready to sell up...

Sorry I can't offer advice...just solidarity.
