Dismissive GP?

Not asking for a diagnosis per se, just wondering if my GP is being dismissive and what I should do.

For the past couple of months (increasing in frequency in the past month or so), I've been experiencing:

  1. Bloating (ranges from mild to a severe, most days)
  2. Feeling 'full' despite not having eaten anything or having eaten very little (daily)
  3. Low grade stomachache that gets way worse after food (couple times a week)
  4. Nausea especially after food (usually with accompanying point 3)
I haven't made any changes to my diet or lifestyle. No new stressors.

Went to my GP for the first time a couple of weeks ago, and he told me it was just PMS even though I've never experienced such symptoms in the past. Went again on Thursday (made sure I was nowhere near my period) and he told me that if it's not PMS it's probably IBS and that the only thing I can do is monitor my food intake.

I primarily eat fish, eggs, bananas, pineapples, tofu, green beans, tomatoes, prawns, kimchi, and have a cup of jasmine green tea once or twice a day.

AIBU to think my GP is being dismissive? Surely I shouldn't have to spend the rest of my life dealing with almost daily bloating, fullness, nausea, and pain?

My mum has had all these symptoms plus occasionally being sick since October last year. she has lost a lot of weight. Over 3 stone. She is very bloated all the time and full after hardly eating anything and what she does eat causing stomach pain and nausea. She has had all the tests but nothing has shown up and they are still trying to get to the bottom of it as her symptoms still persist.

She changed doctors as they moved house in to a different area and the new doctors have offered to put a referral through to the new hospital to repeat all the tests again as they’re stumped at what else to do.

Definitely try and get a second opinion and see if you can go on medication such as Rabeprazole or similar.

You need a blood test that includes FBC, liver function, CA-125 level.

You also need a FIT stool test and an H-Pylori test.

Depending on results, a referral for gastroscopy is in order.

In the meantime, try kefir daily and mastic gum. Did wonders for my stomach issues.

You need to be checked for ovarian cancer ASAP.

My advice as well.

Can you go in asking for bloods(full blood count and CA125), stool FIT test & pelvic ultrasound? If not, go private, at least for initial consultation, then take consultants recommendations to your next booked GP appt.

I had an ovarian tumour that was dismissed at IBS. I was 29. Luckily it wasn't cancer, but a borderline tumour. It was 30 cm in diameter by the time it was removed and i needed major surgery and lost an ovary and tube.

For months my only symptoms were persistent bloating and intermittent stomach pain. At the very end I had urinary symptoms too. I had been to the GP twice and had an abdo examination both times but the GP noticed nothing. At the time I was 29 and weighed about 8.7 stone, so slim and healthy but the tumour could not be felt until it was 30cm in size!

I'm only saying this to show how vague ovarian cyst/tumour symptoms can be and how easily they can be missed by a GP, even when they are quite large.
