To have honked my horn?

I’m a fairly new driver and only recently gaining confidence so any advice appreciated! Driving down the dual carriageway today and joined slipway to get off - when a big white four by four came from nowhere and nearly hit me joining the slipway in front of me. I honked my horn and suddenly the four by four slowed down, I could see her (I think it was a her) gesticulating.. we reached the lights to leave the carriageway and she didn’t go when the light turned green, just sat there in front of me.. so I waited, not wanting to make the situation worse, until she eventually went on.. then she moved into the lane beside me as we stopped at the next lights, still ahead of me.. so I waited for her to go on so I would not have to drive past her, but again she didn’t move when the lights turned green - so I passed her without looking at her so she would not have the satisfaction of me seeing her rude face and took a left away from her.

Anyway, I have been wondering if it might be better to avoid such a situation by not sounding the horn… I see in the Highway Code you are only allowed to use it to let people know you are there..? If someone cuts in dangerously does that count..?

What do you expect from a white 4x4?

She probably didn’t move on green because she wanted to leave it until the last minute so you would get stuck at red.

I beeped someone who tried to force her way into my lane with a gap that wasn’t big enough and traffic that had now stopped at the lights. She was then also sat in traffic, rolled down the window and stuck her whole arm out to flip me out … except we were stuck there for a good 5 minutes and her arm must have been getting tired but I think she felt the sheer embarrassment that everyone was looking at her that she couldn’t stop.

Youll always find angry irrational twats when driving and sometimes your horn will be a snap judgment so don’t sweat it.
