Posted before but can’t find it now, not sure if posts get deleted after a certain length of time? I got lots of advice but ive not got any further forward anyway unfortunately and now I can’t find the post to re read it

I’ve got bad hayfever- I get all the usual symptoms like watery eyes, itching, sneezing etc but I also feel it in my chest, not really sure how else to describe it but it just feels as if someone is sitting on top of me and even though I can still breath, it takes a bit more effort and i usually do things like put my shoulders forward to help me when it gets bad. It sort of feels like Im all blocked up. I was given some strong antihistamines and a blue inhaler because I was wheezy so I just use that when it gets bad.

Unfortunately I’m a showjumper and spend everyday in a dusty environment- sawdust, shavings, straw, hay, and of course my horses themselves! It’s not ideal and the exercising (riding) makes it even worse- i ride with my inhaler and sometimes have to take it half way round a course! Not a great look.

Is this normal with hayfever? This only started a few years ago and it wasn’t something I had problems with before. I don’t want to bother the doctor when it’s something as minor as this but it’s getting in the way of things now, does anyone know of any stronger antihistamines or tips to help? My horse is on dust free bedding but regardless horsey environments will always be dusty.

it doesn’t always happen- sometimes I take my blue inhaler 1/2 times at the stables and other times I take it up to 10+ times. But even when I have to take it this often, I can still breath and I never stop breathing or struggle for a breath, it just feels like I’m all choked up and someone is squeezing my chest. When I’m riding I ignore it but then it gets to the stage my legs feel jelly (I’ve got rubbish stamina which doesn’t help) and I end up using my inhaler mid ride

Interestingly enough I get hayfever away from the stables but I don’t usually get the chesty symptoms- I mainly get them when riding or at the yard.

I’ve got a cold on top of it atm which isn’t helping as well!

if anyone has any tips or experiences or suggestions I would really appreciate it x

Kenalog injections?

Could you have developed an allergy to horses?

Oh god I hope not!

It’s weird because sometimes I’m fine around the horses and other times it’s awful! I sometimes get the symptoms away from the stables but it mostly happens when I’m there- not sure if that’s because it’s caused by the horsey environment or if it’s just because I spend most of my time there so more likely to get the symptoms there if you see what I mean!

I don't think this is a hay fever problem. It's asthma and you should seek a review with your gp urgently. At the very least you need a presenter inhaler as well as the blue for relieving symptoms. You shouldn't need to use it as much.

Have you tried an acupressure band? My OH thought it would be shit but it's made a massive difference to her symptoms. They're about £12 on Amazon.

Sounds more like asthma. See a doctor and they will be able to advise you better. I was diagnosed about a year ago because I started to need a blue inhaler daily. I’ve now got a pink preventer inhaler that I use twice a day and it has really helped loads.
