Service station baby

Today, stopped at motorway service station for coffee and toilet.

Back to car, the car in front parked, fetched out a baby change mat and put it on the ground, next to the rear wheel. Grandma fetched out baby (2 months ish) and mum put baby down on mat on ground by wheel. Mum changed nappy, grandma and grandad stood watching. 😮
Why? We were literally in a place that has toilets and baby change. I wouldn't lie down in service station car park 😮🤯😮

I assume the family members were standing round to protect the baby.

There’s obviously better places but I don’t think it’s the worst thing in the world and it was on a changing mat not on the ground.

No, the baby was on a mat.

Which was in a road?

Seriou · 20/08/2022 22:46

I don’t find this at all weird.
lady changes baby in a perfectly safe manner is hardly worth writing about.

Grandparents watching is weird though, but maybe they were looking out for blind drivers.

Sooveritallnow · 20/08/2022 22:49

Baby change facilities are so unhygienic and often filthy, so should be avoided with newborns, as they haven't yet developed robust enough immune systems.
Would have been more sensible to pop baby on the back seat and changed there, but maybe more room on floor. As long as baby was on a mat it isn't a problem.

TwoLeftSocksWithHoles · 20/08/2022 22:50

Better that than changing a wheel in the toilet! 😂

What's weird is being so irate about something that has literally nothing to do with you.

This....
it's litrally none of your business. parenting is hard enough without people like you judging .. get a life.

Thesearmsofmine · 20/08/2022 22:55

Baby was safe and on a May. No big deal really. The boot and back seats might have been full of luggage/pram/travel cot etc

Gagaandgag · 20/08/2022 22:58

I agree it feels dangerous. I always used to do it on the back seat or in the boot

mogsrus · 20/08/2022 23:03

Gross, why would you put a change mat on a service station floor? very hygienic, not

WishDragon · 20/08/2022 23:25

I would have changed the baby on the back seat of the car, put the mat there.

It was the ground.

I don't know why people are so anti changing tables most mums use their own mat on top of the table.

mogsrus · 21/08/2022 22:30

Yes it was the ground, the ground of a service station

LoveMeForARaisin · 21/08/2022 23:27

I simply cannot get excited about this and cannot see the big deal at all

I was expecting someone to have given birth in the car park from your thread title.

Me too

supersonicginandtonic · 22/08/2022 10:00

@mogsrus read it properly, they were in the car park 🙄

ShortDaysLongNights · 22/08/2022 10:05

I try and avoid baby changing facilities at all costs. Probably would have avoided changing the baby on the floor in a busy car park, bit usually the boot or back seat will do. We have hand sanitizer, etc with us and whilst it might not be a great sight for others, definitely more hygienic than baby change facilities.
I do try to be a discreet as possible though. Like if I know I'll have to change baby, I'd park at the far end of the car park, etc.
