Ok, so my 10 year old hates chocolate, eats very healthy (likes all veg, doesn't eat much fatty or processed food), swims 6 days a week in a club. However, he has a little chub here and there which never goes!

My 8 year old loves chocolate, cake, ice cream. Hates veg (but we can pursuade him to it! and does at least agree to cucumber with every meal!)

8 yr old eats more than 10 yr old. And twice as much as me (and I'm a little tubby round the middle!! 🤣). 8 yr old is fit and healthy and swims a couple of times a week, but does much much less exercise than 10 yr old.

So why is my 8 year old so skinny we can't find clothes that fit his middle. Whereas 10yr old, who doesn't eat much and exercises constantly, has a belly?

Is it all genetics? Will 10 yr old one day spurt up and lose the chub?

I know it doesn't matter, they r only little and being healthy is the main thing (and 10 yr old is v v fit and isn't over weight). But just seems a bit unfair!! :) I worry my poor 10 yr old has inherited my belly from me :( and 8 yr old has inherited my husband's skinny bean pole look.

Is weight really all genetics? Seems to be in my children's cases

There is definitely a genetic component. My twin DSes are six. One eats everything in generous quantities and is incredibly lean. The other has a good appetite but his tastes are less varied and he is lean, but with just a little more chub generally. They are both ridiculously active, always running, playing sport, etc. It’s just how they’re built. I think, as they get older, the important thing will be to teach them how to stay fit and strong and eat well to avoid becoming overweight.

My nephew whos nearly 11 was a little bit chubby for a while, and he's just had a massive growth spurt. He's a perfectly healthy weight (and is nearly as tall as me now)!!

look At your shopping list, does it consist of s lot of bread, lots of sweet foods or processed foods? Do they eat a sugar free cereal healthy lunch and dinner, a reasonable dessert and no sugary drinks ? Analyse what your all eating

I have 2 children.

ds was born two weeks late, has never been interested in food, was 6.5lb at birth. 50% percentile weight all through his life.

dd bigger IN THE WOMB. Born 2 weeks early at 7.5lb. 95% percentile height and weight throughout childbirth and now overweight at 17.

for our family, 100% genetics.
