What was this noise??

Last night my husband was asleep and lying on his back. He always snores when he lies on his back but last night after each breath/snore his chest made a noise that sounded exactly like a second breath but wheezier. Ive tried Googling it but it just comes up with the wrong stuff because what I'm putting in (same as above) obviously doesn't make much sense.
He definitely wasn't taking another breath in between as I felt his chest and it didn't move and also put my hand under his nose/near his mouth and he definitely wasn't taking in or letting out air.
Not sure if this even makes sense but has anyone had or heard similar and know what it could be??

He sounds like he has sleep apnea.

He sounds like he has sleep apnea.

Wouldn't that be where he stopped breathing though? This was like his chest making an extra noise in between breaths

He sounds like he has sleep apnea.

Why? Why does it sound like that doc?

My husband does this (I think, by the way you describe) he sometimes does when awake too and says it's like he can't get enough breath in one go, so he has to have another breath, like a double breath. I can't explain it properly either but certainly wouldn't listen to anyone on here armchair diagnosing. If it worries you ask him to see a doctor, film him next time but am sure it's really nothing

Google rhonchi and see if it’s it.

Scroll down to causes: www.mayoclinic.org/diseases-conditions/sleep-apnea/symptoms-causes/syc-20377631

intermittent breathing is a likely symptom.

This is it I think! Or the closest I can relate it to anyway! Thank you

Ask him to do this test as it will give some indication of sleep apnoea. My DH recently got a CPAP and its made a huge difference. Years of snoring, sleepiness etc. It's take 2 yrs though from initially seeing the GP to get this far (they lost his referral, then sleep clinic claimed they couldnt get in touch!)
