Neighbour wants to sit in my garden

Not sure if IABU or just curmudgeonly.

Neighbour is selling her house. Has a visit this afternoon. Wants to sit in our garden in the shade (hot here today) for one hour with her dog whilst the estate agent shows the house.

We live near a huge, leafy park with benches.

Not sure why this has pissed me off really as it doesn't affect me, but why can't she just sit in the park for an hour?

Aibu?

We have chairs 😂

Back garden

Grin

I asked as it's a pain for us taking chairs from the back garden to the front garden.

If it was front garden, she should bring one of those camping folding chairs.

chatterbug22 · 19/08/2022 23:01

Yeah I don’t see the harm, probably wants to be nearby in case. Take it as a compliment she must like your garden!

SirChenjins · 19/08/2022 23:11

Of course I’d let them - wouldn’t occur to me to say no, but we’re a small cul de sac and all get on well with each other. It’s only for an hour.

AskforJanice · 19/08/2022 23:13

I really can’t see why this would be an issue. If it was all the time maybe, but as a one off?

EllenWaiteourkid · 19/08/2022 23:28

Are you always so mean of spirit ?

excitingusername · 19/08/2022 23:38

I can't believe how unfriendly your response towards her is. I would always help a neighbour out if I could - and I'm a real meanie!

ThinWomansBrain · 19/08/2022 23:49

Maybe she was concerned it was too hot to walk the dog to the park?
May be some shade once there, but the pavements can ger v hot for their paws.

MaggieFS · 19/08/2022 23:58

Totally depends on your relationship. Do you get on, have you socialised, or literally only ever said hello in passing?

Lovethemarsbars · 20/08/2022 00:01

I think it is a bit weird to care. She wants to sit on your garden. What does it matter if she does?

ChipsRoastOrBoiled · 20/08/2022 00:14

Unless you're the closest of pals and are in and out of each others houses, I'm surprised she asked. I certainly wouldn't dream of asking anything like that; I'd probably just go to the park.

Tubbyinthehottub · 20/08/2022 03:52

Too hot for the dog to go on a walk maybe?

Chouetted · 20/08/2022 04:21

I wouldn't mind. She could camp out there all day if she wanted, I don't use it much myself. Presumably she doesn't want to drag the dog to the park in the heat.

onlythreenow · 20/08/2022 05:23

Wow, community spirit has bypassed you OP. I would be more than happy to let any of my neighbours do this, as often as they liked.

mathanxiety · 20/08/2022 05:31

You really mightn't let her do this?

She wants to see when they leave and then get back home as quickly as possible. Maybe she can't see the house clearly from the park benches?

mathanxiety · 20/08/2022 05:31

YABU, and also a curmudgeon.

SoosanCarter · 20/08/2022 05:43

I’ve just sold my house. I have a large dog and it’s been a pita having to leave the house for viewings in the really hot weather. Too hot to walk the dog so we’ve been sitting in the car nearby under trees for over an hour.

ApolloandDaphne · 20/08/2022 06:10

It would be a nice neighbourly thing for you to do. The dog is unlikely to poop and if it did she would pick it up plus dogs don't really leave hair all over gardens. That's a weird thing to worry about. Just say yes to her.

NanaNelly · 20/08/2022 06:11

Jeezy Peeps, why is this even something a person would have to post about?

Charlize43 · 20/08/2022 06:31

How much is it going to bother or inconvenience you if she quietly sits in your garden for an hour?

Do you actively dislike her or have a history?

It's not a bad thing to help other people out if they ask for help. Maybe ask yourself why it bothers you so much?

ShirleyJackson · 20/08/2022 06:41

If she’s elderly and Korean, you might have a lovely time Wink

balalake · 20/08/2022 07:07

I'd be wanting to accompany the estate agent around, as I would not trust them to be honest.

I'd offer to take the dog for the hour.

Christmasiscominghohoho · 20/08/2022 07:10

I don’t really see the issue to be honest.

anonacfr · 20/08/2022 07:10

Shout out to the Tiny Elderly Korean Lady!

Grumpypants78 · 20/08/2022 07:12

Glad you're not my neighbour .

ScarlettnotOHara · 20/08/2022 07:13

Aww let her sit for an hour, what harm is she doing ? If it ‘s for every estate agent visit I probably then make an excuse .
