Help what to do in September?

Posting here because no idea where to put it I’m sure admin will move if necessary.

I’ve posted a couple of times about DD recently. She’s been struggling, aggressive, self-harm, negative talk. Lots of meetings with high school etc. Since summer hols she is like a different child. She is happy, no aggression, no self-harm. I’ve no idea what to do in September now.

How old is she - unless she's in exam year I would seriously consider moving her. Could this year be any different (new teachers, new friends etc)?

Cocopogo · 18/08/2022 23:35

Going in to year 9, this is her third school (I.e moved primary) and she hasn’t settled in any really. Only now she’s older it’s more apparent in her behaviours. Probably asd but no one will assess before she’s 16 as wait lists are ridiculous.
Sorry didn’t mean to drip feed but there’s so many layers to this it’s hard to know what to do.

Van you get her assessed privately? Homeschool? Online school?

Feetache · 18/08/2022 23:45

Find a way to pay for a private assessment. We did. Now we can demand help from school and adjustments

NuffSaidSam · 18/08/2022 23:53

Is homeschooling a realistic possibility for you? I'd look into that.

Cocopogo · 19/08/2022 00:27

The private assessments in my area don’t even have a waiting list because they are so long they have cut them off. I could go out of area but the LEA or whatever it’s called now won’t accept it. If I went out of area it’ll be next year before anything happens.
I guess she’ll just have to go back and see what happens maybe then I’ll have a better sense of if it’s really school that needs moving.

Private equals BUPA.You appointment will be immediate if you can afford it.

Cocopogo · 19/08/2022 17:12

Thank you for taking the time to reply but Bupa do not do asd assessments. As I previously said even private clinics in my area have closed there waiting lists because they are already several years long. I can go out of area however the local authority will not accept this.

Why do they not accept private assessments if they aren't local? Do you have that in writing or just something you were told? How would that work for children moving from a different area?
