My son lives at home rent-free, has no job, and sleeps all day. AIBU to ask for rent

My son is a good boy. Very bubbly personality, his smile could light up a room.

However, he has no job, and always ignores me when I bring up the subject.
He lives here rent free, his dad and I also pay for his food, hygiene products and clothes.

He sleeps for the most part of the day, literally. We're talking 13/17 hours here. And never cleans. So we constantly have to change his bedsheets. There's been a couple of times when we even found poop stains!!
He won't shower from his own initiative, so we have to drag him to the bath.

He is a sweetheart, he really is. Except when he doesn't get what he wants in the minute he asked/demanded for it.
For example: He screams at his dad and I when he's hungry and food isn't ready yet. Won't even wait a couple of minutes. Goes full red faced angry.
He's never cooked. Never joined us at the dinner table. We tried once. Didn't work.
He expects me to adapt to his schedule, give him food whenever he is hungry. And he eats a lot. He's strong and will probably have about 8 meals a day, all prepared by his dad or me. Even at 3 in the morning.

WIBU to say right, this is enough. And to ask for rent and contribution to chores atleast?

He's coming up to three months old and it's about time.

I was reading that thinking 'oh my god how old is he , why are his parents giving in to him '😂 brilliant

Me too! Couldn't believe anyone could be so wet!

Unexpecteddrivinginstructor · 18/08/2022 17:10

Yeah get him child modelling then you can take a third of his wages so he doesn't get used to wasting it on rattles and extra formula.

Creepymanonagoatfarm · 18/08/2022 17:10

Chimney sweep?
Those baby gro's that act as a duster for when he is crawling?

LampLighter414 · 18/08/2022 17:13

I was getting so riled for you but got it at the end.
Aaah, bless!

RaininSummer · 18/08/2022 18:16

Made me laugh too. Just make he isn't still like that at 21 as sadly some are.

Ahsoka2001 · 18/08/2022 18:28

You had me in the first half, OP.

Derrymum123 · 18/08/2022 18:30

🤣 Thank you for making me smile. I was mentally packing his bags for you.
I was about to send a LTB too -(husband) for putting up with him.👍

CatRatSplat · 18/08/2022 18:35

YANBU he needs to pay rent: in cuddles and squishy hugs!🥰

CandyLeBonBon · 18/08/2022 18:36

Awwwwww bless him!

orbitalcrisis · 18/08/2022 18:45

What a freeloader! Get him out to work asap. There's plenty of work out there that he could do. He may not be able to do it alone but strapped to a long pole he could get a chimney spick and span in no time!

2bazookas · 18/08/2022 18:55

You need to get that lazy boy working. At the very least he should be practising little waves, smiles and gurgles to entertain his parents and extended family. Some kicking to strengthen his legs for when he goes down the mine/ up the chimneys.

Hidingawaytoday · 18/08/2022 18:57

He sounds like my DD! I'm constantly tidying up after her, only got her to undo all my hardwork in 30 seconds as soon as I turn my back, wakes the house up at unsociable hours. She even wees on the floor. The audacity*

*ps, I love her really

namechangedembarrassing · 18/08/2022 19:10

Full belly laugh from me!

vaingina · 18/08/2022 20:11

3 months? Jesus, OP, it's no wonder that our menfolk grow up to be lazy and entitled when you and his DF are literally doing EVERYTHING for him. You need to toughen up or he'll be 6 months old and still dependent on you for laundry, prompting/dragging for baths etc

I'm going to be accused of humblebragging, but my kids were stripping their own beds, emptying the bins and could make a simple meal of fried egg on toast before they were 1 month. Start with something simple, that's my advice.
