To have a lazy day

StarLigh · 18/08/2022 14:28

we have just got back from holiday, was so busy at the weekend doing various activities, had a play date all day yesterday. I feel absolutely shattered so this morning we walked 2 mile to the shop to at least get out. Feel guilty for too much TV today.

Of course it's ok to have a lazy day and watch TV

StarLigh · 18/08/2022 14:35

Just to add I have 2 young kids, 5 and 2…it’s always niggling at me that I need to be really busy everyday or else I feel super guilty!

You really don't, relax. Let them play at home, kids need that too sometimes

Even more reason to take a time out. Get back on the sofa in your PJ's and watch some trash TV! You'll feel better for it and ready to tackle day to day life again.

Mumspair1 · 18/08/2022 14:41

Why the need to ram every damn full of activities. Nothing wrong with being bored and finding stuff to do at home. You have just been on holiday, isn't that enough?

I’m still in bed, if that helps you.

Sciurus83 · 18/08/2022 14:43

Absolutely shattered so walked 2 miles? There's no medals you know. Rest if you need to rest. Kids probably need it too.

Exactly! No medals for being a martyr.

StarLigh · 18/08/2022 15:02

I suppress to the pressure I think, you are right, a rest day will do us more good than harm.

I don't have kids, haven't just come back from holiday. Last Saturday I spent most of the day sitting in the chair that looks over the garden, occasionally replenishing my tea, browsing the internet, looking at the birds and making a mental note of what needed doing in the garden.

I do this once in a blue moon (like once a year), and it was heavenly, with no guilt. I figure it's my mind and body's way of telling me that that is what I really needed.

DH will similarly, once in a while, just watch films all day.

At some point one of us will be forced out to take the dog for a walk.

pieami · 18/08/2022 15:14

Boredom/slower days are actually beneficial for kids re development. Overstimulating them isn't ideal.

FinallyHere · 18/08/2022 15:18

Who are you asking?

One of the perks of being an adult and paying your taxes, is that you get to do what you like. Hurrah.

hardboiledeggs · 18/08/2022 15:36

Yeah I feel like that as well when I have a lazy day but the kids love it. So much so that they now ask for a lazy day themselves!

StarLigh · 18/08/2022 20:52

I have in my head that screens are terrible because of outside pressure. We got back from holiday on Friday, a day out of the farm Saturday, a christening Sunday, play centres etc Mon and Tuesday and a day at my friends yesterday, I am whacked.

A day out at the farm 🙄

a 2 mile walk on a lazy day?

StarLigh · 18/08/2022 21:00

Exactly! I felt the NEED to take them out just to get them out 🙄

RayneDance · 18/08/2022 21:08

They need down time as well.

StarLigh · 18/08/2022 21:09

It’s really odd, they went to bed a lot easier tonight? Even though they haven’t done much?

FreezyFreezy · 18/08/2022 21:34

If you're always out with or entertaining them, your dc will never learn how to entertain themselves and fill their own time. They will never really find out what they enjoy.

There is nothing wrong with watching TV (or you watching TV whilst they play) and nothing wrong with letting them just potter about. It's fine.
