I'm with barclays bank but just had a text saying:
SANTAN FRAUD.A new transaction has been attempted on 18/8 at 13.54. If this wasn't you visit this website. Http://access.cancel-transaction.com

OP posts:
WonderingWanda · 18/08/2022 15:11

Even if you weren't sure about because of the timing you don't need to be worried. Just ring your bank or check your online banking surely?

Wheelz46 · 18/08/2022 15:38

It's definitely a scam, they are hoping you will click on the link and enter further details. If you click on the link and don't enter the details, scammers can identify they have a legitimate mobile number and forward your number on to other scammers for cash.

I work in Fraud and we would never text a customer, if we suspected they had been subjected to fraud, we always call the customer!

Fucksake can we all stop being cunts about this!

It might be obvious to you, it wasn't to the OP - and many many other people who do fall victim to these scams.

OP, ignore and delete. If you're ever uncertain, never click on messages of this type. Hope you're OK, it's sensible to check if youre not sure.

Absolutely. I can’t see what people are getting out of telling the OP how stupid she must be to even consider it might not be a scam - except a rather unpleasant sense of self-satisfaction.

Marvellousmadness · 18/08/2022 16:37

Ai... op. Comon.

Or the OP could call her bank and say: "I just received this text message. Is this legit?" And the bank will respond: "we never send you text messages with links in."

Instead of calling her bank, she comes to MN.

What's next? A thread with "I have symptoms of a heart attack. Is it really a heart attack?"

I once got a call from my bank's fraud dep. I told the person I'd call back, they accepted. I restarted my phone, then called the number on my card.

Blowthemandown · 18/08/2022 16:49

@MonkeyDoodles @abovedecknotbelow forward the scam text to 7726 and they can take action.

read about it here:

I often wonder how bitches have survived - shouldnt we have grown up by now?

It looks quite professional but no, I have not clicked on anything. Just worried as I have just finished making a big ebay payment then received it

Banks won't ask you to click into links like that. The only legit texts like that I ever got from my bank were ones asking you to reply to the text with a Y or N to confirm a suspicious looking credit card transaction

saddenedsosaddened · 18/08/2022 17:04

Sidnnancy · 18/08/2022 15:54

Lol the irony of a poster accusing the OP of infantile behaviour... 😁 this site is comedy gold

DO NOT CLICK ON THE LINK

Exactly

Wonnle · 18/08/2022 17:11

The thing is enough people fall for these scams otherwise the people pulling them wouldn't bother with them

saddenedsosaddened · 18/08/2022 17:11

CheeseyToasts · 18/08/2022 14:02

Why are you worried

It's a scam

Ffs how do people still fall for this shit

Educate yourself - your ability to recognise scam texts hardly makes you some kind of superior human - compassion is an area you could work on for example?

CheeseyToasts · 18/08/2022 17:14

@saddenedsosaddened

You're really overly invested in this, maybe take a step back and ponder why this might be

Not being an idiot does tend to make someone superior tbh

ChickenGotLegs · 18/08/2022 17:17

I've had similar texts after making payments online. Usually from banks I don't even have accounts with 😄 I do wonder how they know I've just used my card though 🤔

Being rude in response to a simple enquiry by OP doesnt make you Einstein @CheeseyToasts :) Self awareness can be a very useful tool in life. Peace. x

Donotgogentle · 18/08/2022 17:26

Op - once you’ve had one phishing scam text like this you’ll probably get others (I’ve had quite a few). Once they have your phone number they may try again. Delete the text and block the number- it’ll stop after a while.

I do quite like a phishing attempt for a bank I don’t even bank with though!

WhenISnappedAndFarted · 18/08/2022 17:35

I agree with @saddenedsosaddened. Just because something seems obvious to you doesn't mean it is for everyone.

EmbarrassingHadrosaurus · 18/08/2022 17:42

OP, note that it's an http rather than https link, that's one of a number of indications that this is a scam.

These things are a menace. Either delete it or, as PPs suggest, pass on the details to a scam report organisation.

Irridescantshimmmer · 18/08/2022 17:52

Don't click the link it is as dodgy as 'f'.

There is no s in the hypertext so it is without security.

Report the txt to 7726 then block the number. They are after access to your bank account.

Unnecessary comment.

ElizaJones · 18/08/2022 18:02

Just ignore.

apparently there is currently a warrant out for my arrest because of money I owe to HMRC.

Yes and they very much make it clear on their websites, emails, messages, apps...

One thing I think banks should stop doing is to provide phone numbers to call in mesaages tbh. That can get shifty
