Would you have asked for a late check out refund?

Stayed with my partner at a bog-standard hotel chain at the weekend. Booked and paid for a late check out time as we're both night owls, I have a sleep disorder, and the event we were going to would have us back early hours of morning.

Partner nudging me the next day at the 'normal' check out time. 'Someone's at the door!' I got up and answered and a housekeeper is there informing me that It's check out time.

I told her we'd booked for a later check out and she said something like (I was half asleep) there's no late check out!

I told her it was confirmed when we checked in and she said 'Just give me two seconds!' and disappeared.

I daren't go back to sleep in case she returned and I was awake by this point anyway having had to get up and have a conversation.

As said above, I don't sleep well, never have but I was having a lovely sleep, was out for the count, before this.

Was so tired for the rest of the day.

I wanted to ask for our late check out fee to be returned. DP disagreed. What would you have done?

They didn't enforce the check out at the earlier time so essentially you are asking are you entitled to a refund as they woke you up (I'm going to go with "no" on that)

It was bad form not to confirm you had the room until the later time but I don't think it's refund worthy.

Out of interest how much did you pay for the late check out and what time was it until?

We were meant to check out at 10:00 and we paid until 12:00.

Yes, I think the housekeeper must have gone and spoken to someone/checked something she'd forgotten to previously, and then come up and put the post it note under our door reading 'You do have a late check out! Sorry!'-I should probably have written 'I KNOW!!!' underneath and plonked it on reception desk but I didn't hear/see her do it, the door wasn't in view of where I were in the room at the time. But yes, as I've said above, they kind of did fulfil what they said in that we did get the later checkout, we just didn't get left undisturbed until the checkout.

I realise 10:00 isn't early . I've always struggled with sleeping and have been to sleep clinics, used tablets, nothing has helped. We didn't return to the hotel until about 02:30 and I didn't hardly sleep at all before I could hear other people rising (nothing unusual for me), and it was a rare day without anywhere to be anywhere early. Not that it really matters I suppose, if I'd booked and paid for the room until 16:00 just to sleep all day, I should be left undisturbed in it.

Normally I would say no but in this case I would ask and complain.
