To be fed up hearing my own heart beating!

Bit of a random one! Was tired tonight so went for a lie down after dinner- calm and peaceful, the room was dark, it was nice and relaxing…..except the constant thud of my pulse in my ears!! It’s so annoying!

I can always hear my heartbeating in my ear, most of the time I can ignore it and background noise blocks it (I can still hear it if I focus and block out the background noise) but it’s a lot worse when I’m in a quiet environment and It’s like a constant thudding and I can physically feel it too! Its so loud and It’s so hard to ignore and block out sometimes. It feels like it’s coming from my ears and I can definitely hear the beats of my pulse

Anyone else get this?!

Yes - definitely had this before!

Lemons1571 · 17/08/2022 21:07

It’s called Pulsating tinnitus

Thinkingahead8 · 17/08/2022 21:11

Me too. Really, really annoying!

gamerchick · 17/08/2022 21:11

Yeah. I find it's worse if I'm even a smidge dehydrated. Irritating AF.

This is interesting, I had no idea its an actual disorder. I just thought it was the normal sound of your heart beating except that I can hear it in my ears

It also mentions anemia. I have pernicious anemia from low folates and Im on very high strength folic acid, for a few weeks now and I havent noticed it as much, I must try to pay attention to if that gets better as the months go by, I need to take them for 4 months in the first instance.

I had this terribly for a few months. Found it really upsetting and exhausting. Even the loudest white noise barely helped.
Such a relief when it finally stopped, although I still get occasional bouts.
Try a white sound background, hopefully that will help.
I emphasize with you.

I have this on occasion and it's so aggravating. Sleeping on my back seems to be better than sleeping on my side, as it seems like the pillow pressed against my ear amplifies it

SavingsThreads · 17/08/2022 21:20

I get this but find shaking my head, pushing air out my ears or wiggling my jaw gets it to stop

I have this, its called Pulsating Tinnitus. Mine is due to lifelong issues with my ears (I am Deaf).

When I spoke with my GP about it (my Tinnitus changed from buzzing to pulsing) she said it can also be due to high blood pressure so those who get this and havent yet spoken to their GP may want to get their blood pressure checked.
