Would you let your 10 year old take a bus into the next town at 5-530pm with two 12 year olds and a 13 year old? All girls.

To do what and return home when? I live in Liverpool and there's a gang problem at the moment. You've probably heard of the Ava White murder and our McDonald's banning under 16's after 5, police being attacked by teens etc that's how bad things are. I would have when mine were that age, but not at the moment. But I'd let them go to two other local centers (Prescot and St Helens). So it depends on how your town is.

Depends if they are travelling back later on. But if it's one journey, then where I am, yes I would.

mountainsunsets · 17/08/2022 14:47

To do what? How will they get home?

Sirzy · 17/08/2022 14:47

To do what? How long is the trip? How are they getting back?

on the whole I don’t think I would in most cases

ShoesShoesGloriousShoes · 17/08/2022 14:48

Oh that would have been sensible to say Blush They all have sports club together so would have to cross the road, walk through a residential area at the back of a secondary school to the school gym.
They would be collected by parents.

Then yes I would.

toomuchlaundry · 17/08/2022 14:50

With a purpose like that not a problem. Do they know each other/get on?

In that situation I'd think it was absolutely fine.

If you'd said 'They just want to go into town and hang around for the evening' that would be different, but there's a group of them who all know each other and go to the same club and they'll be picked up afterwards, so assuming the older girls are good kids, it sounds perfectly OK.

At the age of five, I walked to school, home for lunch, back to school and home again with other kids, a mile each time. The oldest child was nine. I was seven the first time I took a bus on my own.

Your DD will be fine.

mountainsunsets · 17/08/2022 15:12

Sounds absolutely fine :)

DD has done this too, but she's never been out of the village or on public transport either alone or with a group of friends. I could drive before I ever travelled on a bus!
She knows the 13 year old quite well and often plays out and helps look after her toddler sibling and she knows the other two from school/club even though they're in a different class and team. As far as I know they're good kids!
