Suspected stage 4 endometriosis and ivf

Hello,

I'm waiting for my surgery (laparoscopy, one hydrosalpinx removal and hysteroscopy) to determine how bad my endometriosis is. Endometriosis was found in a cyst I had removed - this cyst was in my groin not ovaries.

My endo is on my pouch of Douglas which was seen on mri. I am asymptomatic - my periods are practically pain free. I'm presuming this suggests stage 4 endo.

Do I still have a good chance of ivf after my surgery?

Will this mean ivf only and no natural conception?

Sorry for the broad questions - my brain won't stop spinning with all of these what ifs and fears that im never going to have a baby.

I'm so scared so if anybody can help I will appreciate it very much. Thank you

Hey, I haven't got experience of endo, but do of IVF. I just wanted to say please don't panic. There are so many options and I Know many people who have successfully conceived with endo.

I understand. The world of IVF can seem daunting, especially at the beginning. Once you've got a plan (if needed) it will hopefully feel better. I'm in a local IVF support group on facebook, you might be able to find similar? It's so great to talk to other women who are in similar positions.

@BritInAus

I agree, I have made quite a few online friends on Instagram who are going through similar situations. It's amazing how many of us are unfortunately out there - I felt like I was the only one. And they're all so lovely too which is really comforting!

Thank you for your advice xx

Hi stage 3 endo sufferer. I luckily didn't need IVF however there were 2 women on the ward with me when I had my laparoscopy. Both had stage 4 but a lady in her late 30s had a step child and the younger lady in her late 20s didn't have any children. The lady in her 20s was offered IVF on the NHS but the older lady wasn't because they counted her step child as her child so she didn't meet the criteria.

Also a lady I work with has stage 4 and has 4 boys and she only recently found out she had endometriosis. Her consultant was gobsmacked she'd got pregnant once never mind 4 times. So I'd try not to worry, there are lots of options.

I had a laparoscopy then went straight into the medical menopause for 6 months then straight after started try and got pregnant within a month. The Dr's said because they lazered the endo then I was put in the medical menopause no more scare tissue could form because the hormones weren't there

Good luck x

Hey I don't have any suggestions, sorry no one's been able to help with your questions. I'm currently waiting to see a gynacologist at hospital, I suspect endometriosis. It was an urgent referral as I have alot of symptoms and my smear test came back fine. I was just wondering what happened at your gynacologist appointment? If you don't mind answering x

namechangeforgrossquestion · 17/08/2022 21:24

Hey @Shannon26

Sure. I didn't actually go to the doctors regarding my endometriosis. I suspected I had this years ago but I am now asymptomatic so I would never have gone to get this checked out unless I had problems conceiving (which I am having now).

I had an mri for an unrelated issue which found small lesions in my pouch of Douglas and discovered one of my tubes has a hydrosalpinx. Other than that I'm still in the dark. I've had an ultrasound too but I don't think anything was found on that.

My gyno appointment I was asked to explain any symptoms I have, period duration etc. then was just put on the waiting list for the laparoscopy, a hysteroscopy as spotting before my period is my main symptom and the removal of the hydrosalpinx.

With your smear test being clear - the smear is to check for hpv so they won't find endo with this. Hope this helps you, feel free to message me x
