What's up with female children wearing identical dresses for a family occasion ?

I checked into a 4 star hotel last week where a the buffet after a family occasion was taking place in a private room. I didn't know them.

Two sisters, same outfits then repeated twice more with other sisters.

Among the adults, overblown in Karl Lagerfeld and Gucci and goodness knows what other designer short black cocktail dresses and killer heels. Long dyed blond hair, spray tan, botox etc

One attendee had a long tabard made of netting over her dress. Another mourner seemed to be in a full on mourning gown. Things I've not seen before.

Real funerals of 'name your district ?'

So, correct me if I’m wrong, you’re basically having a pop at what mourners were wearing at a travellers funeral???

haveiever · 16/08/2022 19:20

i can’t imagine snidely judging the clothes of people attending a FUNERAL. also your post and title have nothing to do with each other

Ah, I think you've hit the nail on the head there.

This won't last long.

I remember a former friend of mine saying she hated seeing siblings dressed identically and thought the parents must be stupid. Right on cue my 3 little boys aged 3, 2 and 1, all appeared........dressed identically 🤣🤣

You’d have an apoplexy at Asian weddings, OP. They sometimes have all the family men wearing the same outfit and the family women wearing the same outfit.

I think it’s lovely.

yonce · 16/08/2022 19:46

That sounds really cute! My mum used to do this, so if she lost one of us she had an example of what to look for. I don't understand why you're sneering at peoples outfits and appearances at an event you have zero association with. Bitter much?

heyyouboo · 16/08/2022 19:47

If I had little girls I'd love to dress them in matching outfits every now and then, I think it's cute but then that's just me.
I just don't understand the bitterness and judgment for complete strangers at a funeral.
Guess the next funeral will be for the 'Be Kind' movement, eh? 😳

ellieboolou · 16/08/2022 20:29

I've 2 girls, when they were younger they wanted to have the same things to wear occasionally. Younger one wanted to be like her big sister.

I really don't see an issue with it.

pimlicoanna · 16/08/2022 20:33

What kind of a post is this.

Kanaloa · 16/08/2022 20:43

A four star hotel and the only thing to do was gaze gormlessly at people attending a funeral? Did you have nobody with you to talk to? Maybe try reading a book or sampling some of the sights at your four star hotel.

Kanaloa · 16/08/2022 20:44

@pimlicoanna

It’s a mumsnet class thread. Are you new around here? 😂 OP wants everyone to say ‘ewwww designer labels? And kids in matching clothes????? Working class! Disgusting!’

SausageinaBun · 16/08/2022 20:48

I've seen it said that people dress their DC in matching clothes so that it's clear that they aren't wearing hand-me-downs. But I'm not convinced that's the reason as I've occasionally dressed my DDs to match (though it was tricky due to the age difference) and that certainly wasn't my motivation as DD2 mostly dies wear hand-me-downs.

And thus the Ancient Ones spake. They sayeth

'Feedeth Not Ye Trolle'.

Who has long since buggered off anyway.

veggiemonster · 16/08/2022 22:18

What do the 'Botox and spray tans' have to do with matching dresses?

Sounds like a case of the green monster, but please correct me if I'm wrong.

MadonnasKebab · 16/08/2022 22:54

I wore same as my sisters on days out so if one of us got lost all parent had to say was x wearing what U V and W are wearing

RefuseTheLies · 16/08/2022 23:00

Aww - my two girls are going to a wedding soon and they’ll be wearing matching dresses. I think they look adorable 😊

Apollonia1 · 17/08/2022 00:20

I used to live in Spain.

On Sundays/holidays, it was completely normal to see siblings dressed in the same outfit. I think it can look nice.
