Childish silly rant

I've come down with covid and I just want a couple of hours of selfishly being the only sick person in the house.

DH comes back from the gym and announces he probably has it too. He's a bit tired.

He always does this. I swear he'd have period pains given the chance.

I know I'm being completely unreasonable but it drives me crazy. I want to be the sick one, I don't want to have to get out of bed and do everything I usually do because he's sick too.

It's a ' man thing ' and is very annoying.
It's as if it's a fear of missing out on any sympathy , so they have to be ill too, even mildly.
Dont get out of bed to do things ; I used to be like this and it got me nowhere ! Dont be the martyr.
Get well soon. Covid is horrible :(

It's the male version of empathy. They think that by having the same illness you won't feel so bad.

ShouldersBackChestOutChinUp · 16/08/2022 11:29

My dh does this as well. As soon as I am ill, the next day he too will be ill.

I think he hates the fact that I am out put action when unwell so he has to do all the chores, childcare etc so he feels he's owed.

I had an eye infection last year and ended up in A&E. Low and behold the next day his eye was 'slightly red' and he'd been to see a doctor he knows and got some drops to put in it in case he had it too. On further questioning the doctor had confirmed he didn't have an eye infection but he'd bought the drops 'just in case'. I had to chuckle

the80sweregreat · 16/08/2022 11:37

Why do men do this ?
Women don't don't it, but nearly everyone I know who has a male partner / husband all say the same !
. One of life's mysterious

Skinterior · 16/08/2022 11:43

I feel a bit better knowing it's not just us.

'Just in case' eye drops sounds familiar!

Not childish at all. Fucks me off when they do this!! With the "ill" voice ARRGH.

That's a very charitable and unconvincing assessment of their motives imo!

Your rant is justified
Make another symptom up and see where he goes with that Grin

Topgub · 16/08/2022 11:47

Men don't do this

Dickheads do this.

More fool you for putting up with it.

PassiveAgressiveQueen · 16/08/2022 11:48

do not get up an do everything, say you are too ill to do anything for him, and ask him to do everything.

SirenSays · 16/08/2022 11:51

My DH doesn't do this. My sister does! And she always has to one up me. If I have a headache, guess who suddenly has a migraine 😑
