I went for core lesson at my local gym today where I am a member.
There were 4 of us in the class.
There was no warming up- and we seemed to do quite non ab kind of exercises.
He had us holding out a weight with straight arms and swinging it from bottom left foot to top shoulder right ( if you get what I mean) and then vice versa. There was no instructions about protecting our back.
During this particular exercise I felt my back 'pop' out so I immediately went into child's pose to try and relieve it. He actually walked up to me and said as a joke - this is no time to pray. Not really funny when you know you've hurt yourself.
I decided that I should leave the class so I stood (if you can call it that
) up and said I was going in the sauna. He nodded.
While I was in the sauna one of the girls from the class came in. We started chatting and she said what a weird class it was. She said it was more like an arm workout class than a core workout. And that she was tempted to walk out with me. And that she won't be going again.
As I was leaving the gym later the trainer came running up and asked me if I was coming again tomorrow.
I thought : not on your nelly mate - but instead I said I'd have to try and get in to see my osteopath first. He then said I should have gone into the jacuzzi to relieve the muscles...
the weird thing is- he was headhunted by this gym from his previous gym by this gym. People have actually spoken positively about him.
My back has now got so bad that I'm trying to get an appointment at my osteopath. I look like an upside down question mark because my hip is sticking out so much!
I have no faith in him whatsoever now and do not think he knows much about the human anatomy.
I'm going to quiz him on somatic back exercises next time I go.. or should he not be expected to know stuff like that?
