Do you mean flooding?
Not uncommon, but not nice.
What’s the AIBU bit of this?

OnTheVergeOfABreakdown · 15/08/2022 23:25

Why does everything on Mumsnet have to be perimenopause or menopause related? Maybe you're just having heavy periods?

justasking111 · 15/08/2022 23:27

Tampons, sanitary towel and a big wad of loo roll right against the site. Not comfortable but necessary if you're out and about. My friend carried a newspaper to sit on in public.

Because if you've had 35 plus years or normal (for you) regular periods, when you start getting the peri menopausal ones they are different. And I say that as someone who has endometriosis and horrendous heavy painful periods for over 30 years.. now I'm hitting peri menopause I've noticed that my periods have changed. Maybe there are a lot of mums netters in the massive ten year plus range it takes to go through the process.

I've just gone in to Desogestral (progesterone only pill) as my periods were heavy and I was having two a month. So far after a month of taking it - no period! Absolute bliss.

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 15/08/2022 23:53

Poor you. Make sure you get checked out if you haven't bled for a year and then have a bleed/ spotting.

Tried a mooncup? Good as you can wear them all the time and hold a LOT.

toogoodforthisworld · 15/08/2022 23:54

I have to wear heavy duty period knickers with a super strength tampon and a night time sanitary towel which both have to be changed within the hour every frikkin hour for 2 full days and night. I sometimes don't want to leave the house. It's been like this for about 18 months now. My iron levels dropped so much my hair started falling out.
Tbh I noticed it started when all my kids got vaccinated (I've mentioned this before and been slated for it). My gynecologist agreed that the COVID vaccine had made it worse for many women.
I feel you. It's so shit. I make a point of talking to the kids about my blood loss though so that if they do see me leaking - they feel ok to say it to me. And I've spoken to my boss too who was also suffering and therefore understands my predicament.
I was on the beach with the whole family 3 weeks ago.. my period was so heavy that the blood was pouring down my leg and everyone had left me to look after the valuables... I ended up changing my tampon on the beach Blush I created a fort around myself so no one could see me..
But I had a frikkin hissy fit when they all returned tho- selfish fuckers lol

StellaGibson2022 · 15/08/2022 23:56

Look don’t worry about the flooding - any professional person that you work with will not make judgements etc. It happens but yes not nice for you at all.
I would say start looking at how you want to manage this stage. I’m 48 and and looking back can see the flooding was not just heavy periods but an indication of my hormones changing. Read up and get a plan in place and then see you GP.

AdamAndJoe · 15/08/2022 23:57

Mirena coil might help OP. A good deal lighter right up to no periods at all with that.

yousolucky · 16/08/2022 00:01

Buy yourself a mooncup. Helped me a lot. It looks like my flooding stopped now and I can't wait for my periods to stop altogether soon. I'm 49 and the last 8 years have been nightmare period-wise.

PutinIsAWarCriminal · 16/08/2022 00:05

Has anyone tried continued use of the pill to stop pre meni periods altogether?

Golightly133 · 16/08/2022 00:13

i had an ablation for heavy periods it’s cauterises the uterus, haven’t had a period for 14 years, I was horrendous before couldn’t go out for 3 days it’s was awful. Honestly ask the gp/gynae they are a life saver

Assuming that op knows whether their own periods have changed from the norm and what age they are....
What a silly comment.

catfunk · 16/08/2022 08:36

Op I've just started using period pants too as an extra 'defence'
It also comes down to changing tampons more regularly unfortunately. I can't leave them half a day like I used to! Every couple of hours now.
